I've heard rumors that the Rockets would offer a package deal sending both picks (5 & 15) and a post player (likely Kenny Thomas) to the Clippers for Lamar Odom and the Kandiman. In my opinion, that's sweet!! I know Odom has had some off court issues and a few injuries, but he's a hell of a player. He's what we need at the 3, a big small forward that defends, scores and rebound. He's 6'10, left handed, too quick for a 4 to defend and too big for a 3 to match up. A living mismatch that is worth the risk....Can you say," triple double"?. Mike Kandiman has come along way this season as well. I had the pleasure of watching most of his games this season and can honestly say that he's pretty good. ( 3 times better than Kato now) A good low post player that has nice moves in the paint, also a good defender. Sometimes, all a big man has to do is be a defensive presence in the middle. A big man doesn't always have to block a shot, just sell the notion that he might if you bring it to the paint. Kato has a hard time even doing that and that alone is sad. :(

If that rumor were true, I would be so freakin happy. Instead of getting 2 rookies, we would be getting our hands on 2 established vets who are going to keep getting better. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

That would be a good deal for the Rockets but I don't see any reason why the Clips would do it other than the fact that they know they might lose both anyway, in which case would this be the best offer they can get. Certainly Clipper mgmt doesn't think the current team is good enough, especially if they lose Kandi and Odom for unknown quantities in draft picks. But I'll keep some hope nonetheless.

you aren't stu jackson are you?

Who ever believes this rumor, needs to stop smoking the pipe!!

Clippers future rest on what they do with Kandi (and somewhat Odom). If they do this trade (or any that does not better the team), then Brand, Miles, Richardson - eveybody is gone in the next 1-2 years. Trading for more youth is not one of them. They already have 2 lottery picks, why would they want more?

Clippers have two choices: 1. sign Kandi and keep everybody happy or 2. go back to their old ways and loose all their talent. At this point Sterling has to be enjoying all the extra revenue his young team is generating, and might have second thoughts about being a cheap.

QUESTION: why does he own a team anyway? He could probably sell this team, for a large profit.

Though I think this may be wishful thinking on the Rocks' part, don't put it past the Clips to make a deal like this, especially if the #5 ends up being a #1 or #2.

Its been reported that they are infatuated with Jason Williams, and could possibly pull the trigger on a deal like this to get their guy. So don't totally blow these rumors off as total BS.

    Don't underestimate 'THE DON.' ;)

The Candyman is a free agent. He can't be traded by the Clippers.

The Clippers could use all of those picks to trade up and get Ming or Williams, or they could bring in a veteren. Maybe they want Wally, Minesota would kill for some first round picks right about now.

He can be traded in a S&T (like Hakeem).

This all boils down to Elton Brand. Did the clippers trade a #3 (?) pick last year for a quick fix (2 years). Or do they want to lock up Brand to the max. Brand has already stated he is not signing, if the Clippers do not show him a bright future (starts with Kandi).

How about this scenario: Sterling assumes that if he pays Kandi, Brand, Odom, Miles & Richardson the max, he will join the elite company of NY, Miami & Dallas (this makes him vomit). He also determines that in the west, he may never be a Contender (for the 1st round).

So instead of being held hostage, he trades Brand for ? (preferable some top talent with a small "LONGTERM" contract). With all the talent he has, he could clean house and come up with just about any player, on any team he would like (preferable cheap).

How about Cuttino, KT and the 5 for a Brand and their pick? WOuld we be able to give Steve and Brand the max? If so we would look like:

    Cato
    Brand
    Eddie
    SG (rookie or oscar)
    Steve

LA has a glut at the 2 and 3. The last thing they would want to do is Brand. If they sign anyone to a maximum contract it will be Brand. Brand is pretty much an untouchable.

The more I think about this, the more I am sure that Sterling will either go broke (maxing out everybody), or will gut the team and bring in other exciting (less demanding $$$) players that will put most of their current fans, in the seats.

Their is no third option!!! Brand will not sign, if Kandi does not get the max. This really has nothing to do with Brand's love of Kandi. It has to do with the Clippers commitment to the future. The last thing Brand wants, is to be stuck with the same old clippers for the next 7 years.

Dont be shocked to see Sterling gut this team. He will have to max out at least 4 players (maybe 5) within the next 2 years. Does anybody really see him paying the luxury tax?

    I agree with yoy barbourdg...

The Clipps always seem to run into some issue about their future. Sterling doesn't want to spend money..................at all! Brand is the only player he is willing to max , but Brand will not sign until he see something from that organizations that says something other than LOTTO. They have to talent to do so, but he has to pay the guys and keep them happy. He won't! Odom made his bed with Sterling and he will not max Odom leaving him little choice but to move him for a HIGH pick. The Kandi man wants money ( a lot) and deserves to get some due to his good season, but sterling will get a case of , "i don't remember him doing that!
" He'll take a first rounder for him too, freeing up more cap room to give Q richardson , D miles and Brand some cash. The only other thing the Rockets would have to give up is one of our PF's and it will not be Eddie nor Mo T ( Rudy Loves Mo T)

In order to be in accordence with league rules regarding trades and salaries, is it possible to do a trade of #5,#15, KT for Odom and Kandi? How much money do draft picks count for salary? I would think that we would have to throw in someone else.

Yes, but he can't be signed and traded until after the draft. So the Clips would have to be happy with who we picked. And, of course, they cannot go back in time and use our picks to trade up to get Jason Williams. Finally, Kandi would have to agree to the deal, and even the Clips can't talk to him about a new deal, sign and trade, etc., after July 1st.

on my NBA2K2 season I made a trade very similar

    How's this:

    Mo Taylor
    Kevin Willis
    Glen Rice
    #1 (5 or 15)

    for

    Kandi
    Odom

We dump a lot of contract, this would never work in the real world with the CBA.

The 5 should count for about 3 mill a year and the 15th around 1.7 to 2mill. Kenny stands to make 1.5 mil next year to top it off.
Odom will make 3.5mil next year and Kandi is a free agent. I don't think we'd have to throw in anyone to make it happen. If this deal happens, the will never keep the picks because each pick is a guarenteed contract. They would package the picks along with the two they have and package them to Chicago or Golden State for the 1st or 2nd pick. They want and need jason williams, bader than a hog needs slop.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Clippers. I'd like to get Kandi but Sterling will sow the seeds of destruction by not re-signing him. Also, Kandi and Mo didn't get along (ironic, since Mo is less valuable to us now than a center).

Lamar Odom we might be able to get. And it would take #5-8 and #15 to land him.
