surprised no one posted this: http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=290331030 the bobcats officially own the lakers, I was gonna say maybe it's cause of larry brown's matchups/coaching/etc. but the bobcats have been beating the lakers even before brown was coach.. so it must be their athleticism and fast paced team.
The Bobcats aren't a fast paced team. They actually have the 5th slowest pace in the league. They have some good athletes but there are many teams that have more top to bottom athleticism. As for how they've won so much against the Lakers over the past few years... I have no clue.
wow you're right http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/holl...m/nba/hollinger/teamstats?sort=pac&league=nba I am surprised to see the lakers so high, and wow new orleans definitely seems like they'd be faster than 28th, with all the alley oops chris paul throws. how do they actually calculate pace anyway? cause when you're watching the game itself, it looks like the bobcats have a fast athletic team(similar to chicago in some respects).
I'm generally an idiot when it comes to stats but I think the Pace formula is pretty straightforward. This is the definition from the bottom of your link: Pace = Pace Factor is the number of possessions a team uses per game. So I'm guessing they take a team's total possessions from the season and divide it by number of games. I may be wrong. As far as the Hornets having a slow pace, from what I've seen, they use up a lot of the shot clock with the offense obviously being initiated by Paul. Even all those alley-oops to Chandler you see are usually executed in half court sets. You'll see Paul steal the ball a couple of times a game and start a fastbreak but I don't think the Hornets look to push the ball that often. You'd think they could if they wanted to with Paul, West and Chandler all being relatively athletic for their positions. Maybe it's Byron Scott's philosophy to slow it down.
