nice try to create hype on their part. the starting lineup is still the same (fisher, kobe, odom, gasol, bynum), and teams will still guard odom with a 3 and kobe with a 2. the lakers will still have kobe guard the 2 and odom guard the 3. so what's the big difference? odom handles the ball? maybe the article should be on that.

    thoughts?

I think they're only doing this so Odom doesn't have to inbound the ball anymore.

HAHA I remember seeing that game.

i think its because they were hoping that odom would come off the bench to play PF since he is better suited for that spot instead of SF but he didnt want to do that. I guess this way they can see. Odom has great handles for a man his size but keeping fisher in the lineup puzzles me...having ariza at the 3 spot and kobe back at the 2 would mean a very tall athletic starting 5

Kobe is going to have a different role in the triangle, which might give him different kinds of looks than he's used to. Also, opposing players are gonna have to re-scout Kobe because he's going to be executing different cuts, screens, and isos than they're used to. Minor difference to us casual fans, but I bet it's gonna be very different to the people defending the guy.

I wouldn't put much stock into this new Lakers ploy though. Derek Fisher at SG? Why? Phil is just playing games with Odom, showing him that he's better off the bench maybe.

Lakers started Fisher, Bryant, Ariza, Odom, Gasol. Unless Ariza was the unofficial 2 guard and Kobe the 3. I dont think Odom's in any danger of being removed. Unless they think Bynum can replace what Odom can lend and put him on bench, and start Ariza. Looks like they're gonna bring Bynum back slowly though

I know he sucked barely above Luther level in the playoffs last year but Jordan Farmer's a guy that'd be nice on the Rockets.

I hope I don't offend some here by saying this. But damn, the Lakers team is so deep specially in the big men area. I wish the Rockets were as big as the Lakers

The have, Gasol, Bynum, Mihm, Mbenga, and Josh Powell who are all capable big men.

I'd take Yao, Scola, Landry, Deke(fingers crossed) and Hayes over your crowd any day.

no! Everyone here raves about Deke. But Mihm or Mbenga are just as good as Deke at this stage of his career. In other words if either Mihm or Mbenga were on the Rockets roster right now, they'd be backing up Yao. You guys need watch some Lakers games first before judging. I'm not saying you guys should watch Lakers games though cause you're Rockets fans.

the lakers would be dumb to let farmar go.

farmar is still very young and he's shown he has skill already. fisher won't last much longer beyond this year at the point.

On any team there would actually be a big difference. Odom would be the guy setting up the plays, initiating the PnR, etc....but the Lakers run the triangle.

This probably means that instead of playing the 4 and being around the paint, he will start from the perimeter and make cuts to the basket. He's done this before in the Lakers offense but now they have Bynum and Pau it only makes since for him to play PG in the triangle, it's the position where they can get the most out of his size and passing ability.
