Being that Shaq's departure is imminent, I thought I'd pose this question. Personally, Shaq was never the reason I disliked the Lakers. It was always Kobe and the nature of many Laker fans which made me root against them. Now that the teams is looking like it will be Kobe's team, there is nothing I'd like more than a sub-500 season from them. It's a shame, because I always was a fan of Caron Butler and Lamar Odom and truly believe the Heat will regret this deal 3 years down the line if it does indeed go down.
If anything they are more hate worthy. Shaq was about the only person I liked on the Rapers. Not because of his game or anything like that, he's just a funny nice guy.
my thoughts exactly. he's hilarious. "chameleon... i'm a chameleon." i really don't like what kobe is trying to do. it's like he has delusions that he's better than shaq or something. we've moved down to Ft. Lauderdale for 5 years now though I've always been away at school. I've gone to a couple of Heat games. Never really liked them before, but I guess I'll be a fan now.
For me they're less hateworthy, yes. Partly because of Shaq leaving, but more because of Phil leaving. I'll always hate them though because of the arrogance of their fans.
My favorite line from Shaq that I will use in my own personal life: Q: Does this outfit make me look fat? A: That is a trick question and I don't have a trick answer. Any other questions?
Shaq has said some stupid things in the past, but he is really one of the truly good guys in the league from what I've heard from several different people. And to be a superstar and have that said about you, that's saying something. If anything, it makes me hate the Fakers more, because it just proves that Kobe is running that franchise. Rudy T coaching notwithstanding, that organization is about to find out what a big mistake keeping Kobe and letting Shaq go is. I'm not saying keep Shaq in FAVOR of The Rapist, but he's not going to get it done without The Diesel. Kobe sucks.
I'm not a fan of Shaq. I think at heart he's a good guy, but his mouth pisses me off. I don't hate Shaq though. I'm with Drexlerfan that it was Phil Jackson who I really couldn't stand. I don't care for Kobe, but I don't hate him either. I like Rudy, and I will follow the Lakers next year. I'd like to see them continue to make the playoffs with Rudy, but not at the expense of Houston.
I have always liked Shaq mostly because he has always been respectful of the Rockets Organization and its players. He was sad because he said that he really respected and wanted to play for Rudy, but he wasnt coming back to LA. He was and still is enamored by Dream saying that he was in his opinion "the Greatest Center" and he also really had a soft spot for Yao. I remember him saying that he had trouble getting pumped up before playing him because he genuinly liked Yao. But then again, who doesnt like Yao?
If they still have Malone and/or Payton I will continue to wish upon them disastrous fortune. I cannot stand those whiny old cheaters. Oh, and Kobe is an egotistical biatch. I am not a fan of athletes who think so much of themselves.
I'd also say most of my Hatred for the Lakers stems from the idiot Fans and Big Cheif Triangle (and like other it reached a new level when Malone joined up), never personally had anything against Shaq, he's a cool guy it seems. And it's a shame Kobe is such a b****, cause he really does have skills and has done some amazing things on the court, just nowhere else.
I'm in the minority. Prior to the whole trial-fiasco, Kobe was my favorite non-Rocket. Yeah, he's selfish, his teammates say he's aloof and brooding, and he jacks up some bone-headed shots. But I respected his dedication and passion to the game, the fact that every summer he worked his butt off to reinvent himself. (Heh. I guess you can even say that last summer he reinvented himself, this time for the worse). Kobe seems to have a hunger that I don't see in Shaq, or most players for that matter. Shaq takes nights off. Kobe might play silly, but I've never seen him take a night off. As for the personality issues---I've always viewed him as this dark, tragic figure, a tortured soul who has trouble fitting in with those around him. So in a strange, strange way, with Shaq gone, and Rudy in play, I'm one of the few people who actually like the Lakers more. In fact, they're probably my 2nd favorite team.
shaq is a jerk. he reminds me of one of those guys in school that make fun of people for humor because hes bigger. all of his humer is ******* humor. also had an aquaintance (cant spell) who had a really bad personal experience with him. but i hate malone and kobe more than i hate shaq. however, the lakers are much much less hatable now. now i only hate kobe and malone if they stay.
