The balance of power in the Western Conference has shifted! The Lakers trade. . .Greg Foster to the Bucks for Lindsey Hunter. That is a good deal for the Bucks who need more big men, and Hunter didn't make that big an impact for them. Also Tex Winters will retire or scale back his schedule significantly next season.

What the heck? Are the Bucks trying to hand them a title? Hunter is a good shooter and defender who can help any team, and they essentially gave him to the world champs for free. Thanks Milwaukee. [IMG]

LOL! Greg Foster is sorry. Lakers got a good deal. Hunter is a very good 3 point shooter, he was a starter for the pistons before he left them.

Guess that means Ron Harper may not be back (retiring or following MJ to Washington).

Awww man, now I have to hate the Bucks too?

LA stole a good player for Foster, whom I assume won't get much time. Hard to say though.

I think it's funny that Foster used to do all that throat-slashing crap when he was with Utah. Funny, but that's what happened to his career after he left Utah.

The Bucks are insane. Do they think it's the Milwaukee Lakers?! Hunter's not an All-Star, but damn, they just made the Laker backcourt even stronger. He's an above-average to good point guard.

The lakers had Fisher and some woman named Lue playing in the backcourt. No freaking depth and now they just hand over Hunter to them. Lovely. [IMG]

This definitely helps the Lakers. They needed some extra fire power off the bench, and more backcourt depth, I agree with you guys. We have to beef up our bench and frontcourt BADLY!

As I said in the Sprewell-Peja thread...it should be illegal to have that many good players in the West. Maybe they should just make the East the new CBA!

Derrick Fisher broke his foot, which prompted this trade:

    http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/articles/20010628/326386.html

LOS ANGELES -- Lakers guard Derek Fisher has broken his right foot for the second time in a year, prompting the two-time NBA champions to acquire guard Lindsay Hunter from the Milwaukee Bucks for backup center Greg Foster on Thursday.

Fisher's latest injury was revealed in tests done two days ago, team spokesman John Black said Thursday. Fisher could be out for four to six months.

"It's a stress fracture, so there wasn't any one incident where it occurred," Black said. "It obviously happened sometime during the playoffs. He had some discomfort, but no pain."

A CT scan revealed an incomplete fracture in the same bone as before. A team doctor recommended Fisher undergo a bone graft and have a screw inserted in his foot.

Black said Fisher might have surgery next week if the guard doesn't seek a second opinion.

Fisher was a key factor in the Lakers repeating their championship two weeks ago against the Philadelphia 76ers. He initially injured his foot last fall, had surgery six weeks before the season started and missed the first 62 games. He returned in March and gained a spot in the starting backcourt with Kobe Bryant.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said Fisher's injury and the unlikely return of 37-year-old guard Ron Harper hastened the need for a backcourt addition.

"We'll figure out a way to get through it all and hopefully Lindsay will help us," Kupchak said. "My guess is (Fisher) will be back as strong as ever."

Hunter had a disappointing playoffs for the Bucks, shooting only 15 percent from 3-point range and 24 percent overall, as Milwaukee finished one victory short of advancing to the NBA Finals.

"He got injured prior to the playoffs with his groin and never got his confidence back," Kupchak said. "Historically, he's been really good every year, so we write that off as a one-time thing."

Foster, an 11-year veteran, was used sparingly by the Lakers as a backup to Shaquille O'Neal.

Milwaukee general manager Ernie Grunfeld said the Bucks wanted to give Thomas and second-year player Michael Redd more minutes and also add depth to the team's frontcourt.

"Tim averaged 25 minutes last year. We feel he needs to average 30 if not 32 minutes," Grunfeld said. "There's not many teams that can put a 6-foot-10 player in the backcourt and we feel Tim is extremely capable of handling this. And we want Michael to get more minutes, too."

In Foster, the Bucks get a player who has been to three NBA Finals.

"So, he has a lot of veteran leadership, as well as being a very good outside shooter, which fits into what we try to do on this team," Grunfeld said.

Grunfeld said the trade also gives the Bucks more financial flexibility.

Hunter has three years left on his contract; Foster is in the final year of his deal. Also, the deal helps the Bucks if they choose to exercise their one-year, $4.65 million option on starting forward Scott Williams by Sunday. The Bucks gained enough wiggle room through the trade that they can exercise that option without crossing the threshold for the new luxury tax that kicks in next season.

"We'll have something on that shortly," Grunfeld said. "In all likelihood, Scottie will be back with us."

That makes Lakers even stronger!! Great guard play by Fisher ,IMHO, made them even more unstoppable this year both offensively and defensively.

    We just gotta peddle faster.......

I disagree entirely with the sentiment the Lakers got a steal.

First off, I'm a piston fan so I'm quite familiar with Hunter as a player so here goes the reason why this isn't a great deal for LA.

I suggest everyone look up Lindsey Hunter's playoff stats for his career. You'll notice something startling. He is quite possibly the worst playoff performer in the history of the NBA. He simply can not handle the pressure of the playoffs and crumbles. And that includes his defense. He is a good defender during the regular season, but come playoff time he becomes a subway turnstyle with a "free ride" sticker on it.

The Lakers didn't give up anything, so he'll help them some during the regular season, but they better pray Fisher's full strength for the playoffs.

If it will keep Derek Flopper off the court, I'm all for it. The guy doesn't freaking miss and he's annoying as hell with all his flops.

Its a conspiracy to start another dynasty in LA. Hunter was a starter at Detriot and wasn't for the Bucks because of Cassell and Allen. Foster will never start...unless there's an injury.

Now see this is what i'm talking about...if you don't think teams in the NBA are just laying down a path for the Lakers to create a Championship media frenzy to help the NBA ratings, this is a prime example. Why is everyone lining up to give the Lakers more weapons...at least Fisher will miss most of the season. I'm not happy the man is hurt, but on a basketball stand point i don't want to see a primeter of Hunter, Fisher, and Lue to help widen the zone pressure that will be put on Shaq. Why make it easier to open passing and driving lanes for Shaq and Kobe? On top of that if they are not hitting you still have Horry, Fox, and Shaw to step right in to keep the pressure off of Shaq and keep space enough for Kobe. Thanks Bucks...at least you have Greg Foster (even trade) who is nothing less than a BUSTER!! Thank you for your time...

I am with Hobbs on this one. While Hunter will be better overall for the Lakers, I watched a lot of the Bucks games in the playoffs, because I liked them best, and Hunter really embarassed himself. He bricked nearly all his shots, and did not perform well in the playoffs in any category of his game.

Fisher, on the other hand, was exactly the opposite. The guy was injured during the regular season, but caught fire in the playoffs, and took care of the ball better than most point guards in the league (look at his TOs for the entire playoffs... very low).

Hunter will bring this team down in the playoffs. It may be true that Shaq and Kobe are the leaders and superstars of that team, but Fisher was still a big part of that throughout the playoffs, and they will miss his clutch play if they stick with Hunter.
