My name is Vwiggin and I have a problem. I love the Lakers. I can't offer a money bet since that would get our webhost into trouble. So I offer you this: If the Lakers do not win in 7, I will create a topic called "LAKERS ARE LOSERS AND SO AM I." In that topic I will say whatever you want me to say (barring slurs against minorities and stuff like that). You can make me say I have sex with donkeys, and I will say it. Likewise, if you lose, well the tables are turned. Of course, we will preface our post with "I am doing this because I lost a bet" so we don't seem completely insane. Any takers? I'm not a fair-weather fan that only supported my team when the championships started rolling in. I became a hardcore fan during the Bulls-Laker series, which would've been a sweep if not for Sam Perkin's miracle three pointer. I stuck by my team when the likes of Cedric Ceballos and Terry Teagle were our leading scorers. I put up with the Dennis Rodman nonsense, the Kobe arrogance, the Shaq whining, and the Malone retirement party. But I still love them. I love how Jerry West always picked the right players. I love Chick and his ice box. I love the great unsung heroes like Coop, Eddie Jones, Horry, and Fisher, whose dives to the floor are more exciting than any dunks by Michale Jordan. Mostly I love how players love coming to LA. Yes we are a big media market, but it is more than that. NBA players like coming here because they love the same things I love - the surf, the glitz, the fact you can get authentic Vietnamnese Pho and creole oyster sandwiches in the same shopping mall. Lakers in 7 baby.
Yes, you do have a problem. I hate Lakers fans. My son is a Lakers fan. I love him dearly. But I hate him when we watch basketball together. And since he's still young, I can still bully him when we play 1on1 in the backyard. I digress. Since you are a Lakers fan, I hate you. But I respect your dedication. I've been hating the Lakers with a passion ever since the so-called Showtime in the 80's. I've been hating them through thick and thin just like you love them through thick and thin. So we should respect each other. I know I'm babling. I hate the Lakers this year especially intensely because they have added two of the most hated players of mine: Malone and Payton. I thought they were going to cruise to the title once they cleared the Spurs. But I am gladly. . . no, ecstatically. . . surprised by Detroit's performance. I don't do bets. I think the bet you offer doesn't really mean anything anyway. When the Lakers lose, they are losers and you are loser whether you admit it on this board or not. In fact, I enjoy listening to Lakers fans' whining and excuses rather than humbly admit defeat after they lose. That just gives me more reasons to hate them and fewer reasons to respect them. And if they happen to win, then my heart will hurt more than anything you can make me to say.
VWiggin, if you're not a fair-weather fan, I don't hate you. You're just annoying. Now go play in your own yard, junior.
You are a true fan indeed! Nice post. I'm not a betting man, but I sure do hope you lose! Yours truly, Laker Hater
since you're a "fan" can you provide us with the "party line" about exactly HOW the Lakers are going to pull this one out and by How - I mean real adjustments... because no one seems to be able to find any are they going to build a time machine and go get Malone from 1989 ? are they going to get the maintence guy to remove the nails from Gary Peyton's feet or maybe they are just going to keep doing what has been working for them -.... well at the least what was working the second quarter and overtime of game 2 (sinec they have been the Pistons' collective b1tches the rest of the time)
i never had a problem w/ the lakers till they brought in satan malone. now the full wrath of my venomous hatred for malone is brought down upon the entire team. i hate the lakers so much! if not for lady luck the lakers would be down 0-3 and this series would be virtually over. i was beginning to wonder, but after the belzelbub malone knee injury i am sure that there is a god and he too hates karl malone. karma is a b-yatch! its a fitting end to such a piece of crap like him, not even being able to play more than 15 minutes in the finals...his last shot at the ring that he so truly craves, but will never attain. all you pansy l.a. fans were so dang smug in your belief that the title was already yours. you dont deserve it, your city dont deserve it, jack nicholson dont deserve it, all those plastic hoes w/ fake boobs and fake lips dont deserve it, your team dont deserve it and karl malone dont deserve it. you dance w/ the devil and your gonna get burned!
Yes on that malone thing. And the unreal unZen - like arrogance. And the Shaq - Kobe hate-each-other-thing. And the Fisher/Fox flop oscars. Despite all that, I just believed the Pistons to be able to beat the Lakes, and said so early in the play - offs. In 6, I say.
vwiggin don't you know that someone will start a thread that the Fakers are losers no matter what happens. So far you're fakers have brought nothing but shame to the western conference. You will lose because of the fakers and their fans hubris and whining.
i like the lakers too. i haven't liked them for as long as you have, but they've always been one of the teams i liked since the late nineties, you know when they had peeler and NVX and eddie jones. i mean... what have the lakers ever done to us? sure they beat us this year... but i mean we would have lost to S.A. or Minny too... i actually don't understand the hate. i wouldn't mind if the pistons won... but i don't really like them for some reason.
My hatred of the Lakers is driven more by the arrogance of Kobe, Shaq, and Phil Jackson. Also adding Payton and Malone didn't do them any favors in "likability" in my eyes. I hate how the TV cameras have to show all those damn phoneys in Hollywood coming to their games. Do famous people not come to other teams' games? Why do we hardly ever see those people? But as much as I despise Phil Jackson, Shaq, Karla, etc, I absolutely deplore the media's ass-kissing of the Lakers. All I heard from ESPN after the Lakers signed Malone and Payton was how the NBA title had already been decided and it was going to the Lakers - forget that the season hadn't even started yet, lol. Watching the Pistons kick their asses is one of the most satisfying things I have seen in sports in a long time, maybe ever.
I'll tell you when my hatred for the Lakers started: it was back in the 80's when "Showtime" meant that they Lakers got three steps to your two, and if you BREATHED on Kareem, Worthy, A.C., or Magic, they got the foul. It started when a trip to the Forum was an automatic check in the "L" column, not because they were better, but because they were the darlings of the NBA and there was no way in hell they weren't going to the Finals. It's not a jealousy thing, it's a respect thing. The blatant favortism shown to the Lakers and (to a lesser extent) the Knicks, due to the fact that they're the two largest markets in the NBA, is sickening. Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz (yes, I hate them too, but bear with me), S.A. Spurs, etc. put up impressive records for long stretches at a time, and they have to fight for a scrap of respect from the media. The Rockets WON THE F*CKING TITLE and didn't even make it to the cover of S.I. That's just plain B.S. Thus, the Lakers, and their bandwagon fans, and the "stars" in the stands who show up but don't give a damn about the game, and the refs who suck up to the them, and the media that idolizes them, and the league that patronizes them, can all kiss my Rocket-red ass.
