I can't stand the Lakers, but I think we should throw around some speculation about where they go from here...

Bring in Malone? J. Howard? Phil Jackson retiring?

Do they strip their entire roster except Kobe and Shaq?

They're gonna get Pippen. Count on that. After that, I'm not sure. Kukoc maybe?

They really need to focus on younger, more enrgetic talent, IMO.

Kobe or Shaq leaves. Although they play well together, there isn't enough California for both egos. With Shaq or Kobe gone, Phil is so outta there.

If I'm GM of the Lakers, I go ahead and trade them both. After all, they just won three straight.

You know they could package Shaq and Kobe in some blockbuster trades while getting rid of their crap players to boot. Using Shaq or Kobe plus scrubs, they might even be able to get into the LeBron sweeps.

They won't. Gary Payton will command more than MLE.

You may that Payton wants to win a ring, right? Then why not going to Spurs with a little more than MLE? More money. Bigger championship chance. Someone please call Payton for this idea!!!

Besides, I don't think they can get Malone either. Malone is staying at Utah. I really think so.

I highly doubt that Lakers will get any big-name players with their MLE.

I know you might be joking BUT if I were a Lakers GM, I would really trade SHAQ and rebuild around Kobe.

Shaq won't get any younger, better and healthier. Besides, if his current contract continues, he's set to earn near 30 MILLION at 35 years old. He's not worth that money and makes it impossible to add new players.

SHAQ FOR KEVIN GARNETT. This is an idea!

Im guessing sarcasim..on your part..The only way shaq or kobe is gone is if Shaq retires which I wouldnt rule out completely. Lakers will regroup. Im predicting Malone will be a laker. Most likely SA or Dallas will win the finals now he wont join the Nba Champs because people say he didnt earn he will go to LA so the media can say hes the savior. Alot of supporting cast will be gone. Back to the orginal question they will make some minor adustments and will contend for the finals. It wont bring another dynasty it will just be a continuation. 1 maybe 2 more rings for pill and shaq

I know they want Jason Kidd, and he has said he wanted to go to San Antonio if the Nets weren't getting any better. If they were to get Jason, Tony Parker would move to the two. He likes to shoot more and is a scorer.

Why would they need Kidd? They have a young and cheap point guard with Parker who just proved that he can be part of a championship team.

Because besides getting Jermaine O'Neal or Elton Brand (which I don't think will happen), getting Payton at a little more than MLE for a 2-3 years contract + Brad Miller starting at 6/7m is THE BEST OPTION AVALIABLE, yes better than just getting Jason Kidd for max.

Payton is the Stockton type and can still play at an All-Star level for next few years. Payton will be the instant 2nd option behind Duncan which is role Parker is still inconsistent at.

Tim Duncan's prime is NOW and their championship window starts at NOW. They can't wait Parker to develop as a 2nd option forever.

And Brad Miller will certainly contribute more than the current David Robinson and fit in nicely.

    The rotation can be:

    Starting lineup:
    PG- Payton
    SG- Parker
    SF- Bowen
    PF- Duncan
    C- Brad Miller

Bench: Ginobili, Stephon Jakson, Malik Rose

This is even BETTER than their current team. And their current team will just win the NBA championship this year!

One of them must go (pick one). One of them will return a star player or two to compliment the star that wasn't traded.

I just don't think they will get anything for the remaining players (Fox, Horry, George, Fisher, etc.). Who would trade for those guys and would the Lakers want what is offered in return?

I guess they could sign a free agent, but I thought that they were limited there as well.

It would not surprise me if Phil Jackson retired and Shaq were to be traded. Things feel awkward now that the Lakers are out and aren't going to be Champions but it sure is a good feeling.

They can get Payton AND a center.

Claxton is a crap PG. A little better than Moochie. Well just a little bit. That's saying much.

I remember hearing it somewhere. I forgot where, but Jason Kidd said he wanted to go to the Spurs, cause he said he didn't want to do as much and he wants to win a ring.
