    CLIPPER-LAKER REPORT
    Cassell Has Responsible Attitude
By Jason Reid and Mike Bresnahan
    Times Staff Writer

    February 25, 2006

Point guard Sam Cassell should be blamed for the Clippers' longest losing streak of the season.

    So says Sam Cassell.

It's Cassell's responsibility to keep them on the right path, he said, and the Clippers have gone in the wrong direction recently, losing six of seven, including five straight, before Friday's 102-83 victory over the Lakers.

"Put it on me, put the whole thing on my shoulders, I've got no problem with that," said the 13-year veteran and co-captain. "I know what this team needs from me, I know what they expect from me, and if we're not getting it done, then I'm not getting my job done the right way.

"I've had guys say to me, 'Sam, you can't take responsibility for everything,' but that's what I do. I've been in this game for a long time, and my guys here count on me to do the things that I do. I'm always going to take the blame, so that one of my guys doesn't have to face those questions from you guys [reporters]. I can take it."

Although Cassell's clutch shooting has provided the difference in many victories, he struggled in the last four games, making only 21 of 62 field-goal attempts.

Coach Mike Dunleavy has given Cassell the freedom to keep shooting.

"Sam knows what we're trying to do. He knows what's a good shot and what's not a good shot," Dunleavy said. "It's not something that I have to tell him."

Sam is a warrior. All heart baby!! Heart is what the Rockets need.

I cant believe Rockets rejected Minny's offer of Cassel for Juwan last year!!!!!

Sam must have felt like shooting himself on hearing the news.

Juwan himself must have been laughing his @ss off at JVG and CD.

Are you serious? They offered Cassell for Juwan? I never heard about that. Why would we pass that up?

We can only dream of where we would be if that trade had happened. Rid of Howard's burdensome contract, and our PG in place. He would be better on this team than Rafer. Not only that, then we could have really plugged holes better since we would have still had James back there for instant offense or for a trade to get us an upgrade at the PF or SG position. Then we would have still used the MLE on either Swift or a shooter, whichever we didn't get with James and whatever else for a piece.

Surely, it was Minny that pulled out of that deal and not us.

Yes, I am DEAD serious. Look it up using search. And you will have to ask JVG and CD for the explanation. He would probably tell you Juwan is the hardest player in the league and he couldnt give him up.

Minny offered the deal, so why would they pull out?

Can you imagine how Garnett would have felt? It was bad enough on him as it was. Now, throw Juwan in there and Garnett is having to cover both bigs along with watching Juwan eat the ball 2 or 3 times a night or clang jumpers off the iron. Eddie with even less defense and no help.

Minny realized that they were about to pull an Isiah and Kevin McHale gained enough temporary intelligence to make sense of this.

Oh if Sam played for the Knicks.. then we wouldve traded howard, charlie ward, given them moochie and vin back, for cassell and a 1st round pick.
