http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/7407582.html LA Raiders and Orange County Jaguars?
The most logical choice are the SD Chargers ...good team that has been in the playoffs the last 4-5 years . They missed the playoffs by one game. Team has a lot of talent , Elite QB (Rivers ) , need a new stadium . A lot of Chargers fans in L.A already .
My best guess would be the Jags or the Raiders. Vikings are the dark horse because of their stadium situation. I doubt the Chargers go.
I don't get why they need two teams. Just move the Raiders back to LA, the Bills are moving to Toronto.
No way they move KC out of the west and break up the rivalries that they have in that division. They could move LA Jaguars to the NFC West and move the Rams to the AFC South.
Not gonna happen. Everyone wants football in L.A. except the people that are supposed to go to the games there. Maybe in the next season of Entourage, but not in real life.
I voted for the Jags and other because I can't imagine any of the others would end up moving. The Jags, though, are just about a sure thing.
AEG, the company behind the Michael Jackson memorial tribute that Los Angeles taxpayers pay MILLIONS of dollars for the tribute instead of funding it themselves. With taxpayers picking up the tab, they loaded up on it overstating its appeal making it more expensive than it needed to be. Thats AFTER they already possibly frauded Michael Jackson into doing more shows in the MJ comeback London concert than he wanted. And are still presently being sued by his family. Not saying they're shady and exploit people. But I wonder if LA area people have that in mind.
I think most the NFL appeal in LA is in the NON-native LA population. There are enough non-natives to still be a significant amount though. For 1 team, not TWO. I think to market it, it really DOES have to play directly to the stereotypical aspects of southern Cali culture. One big mega-celebrity event that just happens to have football played, like a mini-Super Bowl atmosphere all the time. LA can pull it off for a time being, but thats not sustainable in the long run.
That makes sense. Give them a reason to go other than the football team. But you'd need the right guys in place to make that work and Jerry Jones is sticking to the Hollywood of the south.
I think the talks of L.A. not being able to sustain a football team are a bit exaggerated. It's the second biggest T.V. market in the entire country and is a county of 14 million people. People will show up to games, but I can imagine the team floundering if they lose incessantly right out of the gate. I think the traffic talks are also exaggerated as well. There is rail/subway access directly to the Staples Center area, and since the city has been trying to boost its public transport profile over the past few years, by the time this thing is done being constructed it should be a little more cemented and popularized by then. It wouldn't be too hard to get the UCLA/USC fans going for one professional L.A. team. Every Angeleno I talk to here in L.A. about football always says that they don't really care about the NFL, but they would if there was a team. So hey, who knows. As a big fan of architecture and urban planning myself, I am more interested to see what kind of stadium they can get and where it'll be. Apparently Farmer's insurance is going to have the namesake (the nick's probably going to be "The Farm"), and it's going to be in Downtown, replacing one of the wings of the convention center. It'll be next to L.A. Live and Staples Center, so that part of DT is definitely going to be very lively, especially if there's ever a Sunday afternoon game with the Lakers and the football team at the same time. There are three different renders of the potential stadium (none of them architecturally ground-breaking or pioneering). I think AEG is heading up the cost of most of it, I'm not too sure on the financial details. This is probably the best shot at getting a football team L.A. has had ever since '94. Links: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118031255 http://www.farmersfield.com/ (the render in this one is of the Gensler proposal. Those outdated renderings from a couple of years ago were pie in the sky dreams of a stadium in Industry, and were also garish and tasteless beyond belief. These new renderings aren't very creative either, but at least more withstanding than the earlier crap) http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...pdate-on-downtown-l-a-stadium-coming-tuesday/
Living here in San Diego ... I fully believe 100% that it will be the Chargers. There is no hope for a stadium here
LA can and will sustain a football team. Its sustained the LA Kings hockey team of all things. Just probably not relative to its SIZE. Like how they're saying it can have TWO football teams.
