Sloan, Jackson Crying Foul Over Officials

The Los Angeles Daily News -

Jazz coach Jerry Sloan cried foul on Friday after he felt Kobe Bryant received special treatment from officials during Games One and Two, and now Phil Jackson is doing the same following his team's Game Three loss in Utah, according to The Los Angeles Daily News.

"He's had pretty much a free reign because it's a non-contact sport when you guard him," Sloan said before Utah's win in Game 3 on Friday night. "You see Ronnie (Brewer) get a couple of fouls, (and) he becomes so conservative and so concerned that he's going to come out of the ballgame, and that's a hard thing to overcome."

    Jackson fired back soon after.

"He can't even open his mouth to speak about that the way (Carlos) Boozer pushes and shoves out there," Jackson said of the Utah power forward. "He got away with all his pushes (Friday) night, which he was getting called on in L.A."

"So, I mean, you know, in that regard, you just let it go and say, 'The stars get to play their game and the other guys have to keep their hands to themselves.'"

    To Sloan: *laughing* Seriously?.....

    To Jackson: You don't say....

Does either guy really have room to complain though? Sloan and the Jazz get away with unbelievable amounts of "illegal" activities. I put illegal in quotes because the crap isn't called so is it even considered illegal anymore? *shrug*

I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at the Jazz after game 2. I won't even attempt to paraphrase but Boozer and Sloan both addressed the media and pretty much admitted that they have gotten away with fouling people all season and can't understand why the refs are calling it now.

It's a really interesting series, since (in my opinion) these are the two worst-officiated teams in the League. The Jazz get away with so many fouls - and the Lakers tend to get calls when there isn't a foul. Home cookin' really makes a big difference in this series.

If that is true then the Jazz will lose. It would bother me to no end if the Jazz actually advanced and their style of play actually won out. I don't like the Lakers much better, but the lesser of two evils etc. We will see.

I'm waiting for a Utah Jazz fan to flop a death and be buried alive.

My question in all of this is WHY do the Jazz get away with fouling all year in the first place? It's clear that Sloan, a long time ago, realized that if they foul on EVERY possession, there is absolutely no way the refs call it each and every time. I would honestly love to see a game that lasts like 6 hours simply because the referees decide to grow a pair, and actually CALL the fouls that are being committed. As of now, the only real way of making the Jazz pay for their garbage style of basketball is to knock down your free throws at about a 90% clip. Right now, neither the Lakers nor the Rockets came even remotely close to that, and that's why there is no incentive for the Jazz to change. It also doesn't help that both teams (Rockets and Lakers) happen to be incredibly beat up, and had/have to deal with injuries to their main guy. If the Jazz somehow end up advancing to the Finals, and they end up playing the Celtics, I would be so scared. The Celtics can't even win in freaking Atlanta....how the HELL are they going to win in Utah? If that happens, I might quit watching basketball, because obviously there is no justice in the basketball world.

on the last play where AK got the dunk and 1 boozer pushed off on his roll knocking fisher right into gasol taking them both out of the play resulting in odom having to guard three people.

I hate the jazz and the way they just get away with everything I swear I hope they get whats coming to them real soon.

I dont care for the lakers but man I was hoping Fisher was going to make them pay had they won in regulation that dude was clutch.

LA shot more free throws through three games. Then in Game 4 Utah shot 45 (FORTY FIVE) free throws to LA's 25. That's like Karl Malone kicking you in the groin and getting the foul called against you for it.

How about having your arms hooked from both sides by opposing teams' players and YOU getting the foul?

I'm sure people have seen this multiple times, but wow. Woooow.

It's not like this is a new development. Utah's been doing this for most of Sloan's tenure. And Pat Riley's Knicks and Heat of the 90's did the same thing. NBA analysts euphamistically refer to it as "playing physical", but all these teams are really doing is fouling every possession.

If there's one thing we can take comfort in, it's that the Jazz have never won an NBA title employing these tactics and the Miami Heat were a playoff failure as well. And before anyone brings up the '06 championship squad, Riley coached that team very differently from the Zo/Hardaway era.

All those people who think the league is getting soft and wanting to go back to 80's - early 90's basketball should be big supporters of the Jazz.

You certainly don't need to remind a Rockets fan how Boozer gets away with all the pushing, elbowing and bodying he feels inclinded to do.

It's ok guys the NBA is rigged.. therefore lakers and spurs will both advance.. then the lakers will win that series... Mark my words.

Really? The Lakers..... I can understand if you think the NBA wants the Lakers to advance and I could think of very little to dissuade you that the NBA doesn't want the Lakers to win. They basicly got Derek fisher and Pau Gasol for nothing.

The Spurs? Eh......I doubt the NBA would do anything to make sure the Spurs win. Small market team that is thought of as a "boring" team to watch. The NBA's management doesn't have anything to gain from the Spurs advancing.

I, however, sincerely doubt the NBA is rigged. Some team's just have the fortune that other's don't have for whatever reason. It's actually kind of sad.

The Lakers are the premier franchise in the NBA. I am sure Stern wants them in the finals.

I'd be ok with that......if every team was allowed to do what Utah does.

woudln't utah hate that? they are already doing that, and not getting calls, what happens when everybody doesn't get the calls. it'd be (dis)advantage for both teams.
