Here are the relevant stats in the games he has played for us: Dallas - 4 fouls in 15 minutes (to go with 4 turnovers) Bobcats - 4 fouls in 20 minutes (he has as many fouls as he does assists and turnovers combined!) Portland - 3 fouls in 15 minutes His so-called "hard nosed defense" is often trumpeted around these parts, but it's not 'defense' if your man ends up scoring at the line anyways. At his current pace, he'll foul out well before notching 30 minutes. On a per-minute basis, he fouls more often than Scola and about as often as Chuck "Foulwagon" Hayes. Yet, Lowry doesn't have to bang down low like those players do: he is a point guard! For comparison to another point guard who has been regarded as a decent defender, Rafer Alston is notching 1.5 fouls per game in 33mpg. What are we going to do about this foul machine?
Bobcats game should say "assists and points" combined. I got them mixed up in my head because lowry tends to have as many turnovers as points.
Damn it, did someone leave the door open again? Remember, the best way to keep a troll out is to lock the door, and pretend that no one is home.
Wow, a three game sample? For a new player in new defensive schemes? Really? I smell rookification. Terrible thread.
This is plain rediculous. The man is a good defender and makes GOOD use of his fouls. Remember on that fast break that Aldridge was on in the Portland game? Lowry put a hard foul on him and saved us a point. Curious how that point could've made a difference when it was a 4 point game when the Blazers had the ball in the last 15 seconds.
He has just recently started back playing, give him a little time to learn how the rockets play their deffense.
I noticed that he fouls alot also LOL.. Its only been a few games so lets not be to tough on the young cat
Are you on the coaching staff? Is anyone here on the coaching staff? I don't think "we" are going to do anything but sit on our computers and b**** about stupid s***. Give the kid a little more than a 3 game sample.
As was pointed out, Lowry's career numbers aren't this bad on fouls, so I'm sure much of this can be chalked up to unfamiliarity with the Rockets system. Rafer Alston's fouls went down significantly every year he was with the Rockets (3.1, 2.4, 1.9, 1.5) -- his minutes went down too every season, but not by much.
I am not concerned with his fouling, he needs to hurry up and read the book titled The Do's and Don'ts when Passing to Yao. He will get better as time goes on.
Lowry is new, and I'm giving him some time to adjust to the team. The fouls are alarming, but then again, there are many times when our team seems very foul-prone. Fouls are one (not only) indication of effort on the defensive end well for most non-star players. So far I think Lowry has shown more upside than down. I'm not as high on him as many here are...yet. I hope he matures into a great backup PG for us. It seems to be going in that direction at least.
