In an interview with Fox News' Neil Cavuto, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) made it clear, again, that current proposals for health insurance reform will not receive any Republican support.

this is the mindset of what we're dealing with....

Not like it is a big surprise, they have become the party of "no" and little else.

Absolutism will get us nowhere. It goes for both side...yes pelosi that means you. Can't go around saying "we will not pass this bill if it doesn't have a public option." I don't care how you feel regarding the public option, but she and her colleagues (Ds and Rs) need to both be open minded about alternatives.

Intense partisan bickering lead the government to reconcile their differences.

    What's wrong with that quote?

You can argue the Republicans are just being obstructionists, but there's nothing wrong with the mindset displayed by this particular statement. For somebody to say he doesn't think a single member of his party would support specific bills that have been proposed doesn't say anything other than his party doesn't like what is specifically in those bills.

I don't see how the quote in the title is supported as stated in the comments of the congressman.

Republicans are definately for health care, and even reform. Looks to me like they arent in favor of what is currently on the table. Way different from they dont support any kind of health care or even a reformation of the current health care system.

come on uolj; do you really think if the democrats dropped the public option, dropped co-op (whatever those are), dropped employee mandates that republicans will "come together" and pass healthcare?

lost_elephant I'd really like to to hear an honest reason why people have a problem with the choice of a public option.

No, I actually don't. But I'm not a fan of Republicans twisting words and implying meaning that doesn't exist so I see no reason why I it should be ok the other way around.

There's plenty of evidence to back up your assertion. Using this quote isn't accurate and doesn't seem necessary. That's all.

All I can do is write my congressman to try and push for an alternative that actually helps improve the healthcare situation. Though I dont really think a republican drawn resolution will get passed the house and or senate. Too much partisanship from both sides in today's Washington.

Does anyone remember this old SNL sketch? I think it's an early 90's Hartman/Sandler/etc era episode. It's CSPAN covering Congress and they try to decide on a lot of trivial things, like what to have for dinner afterward. And the results of each vote shows it was a totally partisan result, like all the Democrats voted for Chinese and Republicans voted for Italian.

That sums it up for me.

The dems have the majorities, so why do the repubs need to support the current offerings? The appearance of bi-partisanship? Are the dems scared to go out on a limb and do whatever they want? Perhaps there isn't enough support in their own party to get this done, and even a sprinkling of repub support would help?
    Gotta love politics.

I don't see a problem with the statement.

My issue with Republicans isn't their opposition, it's their unwillingness to try to solve the problem out of fear it might make Obama more popular and cost the in the mid-term elections.

Kinda makes me think America is doomed.

What disappoints me is not that the Republicans will not support the current bill. What disappoints me is the lack of alternate ideas flowing from the Republicans.

If they said they would not support this bill but what about this idea, I could really understand that. To just say no and walk away is not particularly productive.

There are something like 150 Republican amendments in the bill already. Yet they won't support it.

I will say this about the GOP. They aren't scared. The Dems supported all kinds of horrible Bush crap because they were scared of being labeled as unpatriotic. So the Dems caved into the Republicans again and again.

The Republicans aren't caving, and for some reason the Democrats are still scared. They need to make the Republicans pay for limiting people's freedom by denying health care. They need to make Republicans pay for being obstructionists. They need to make Republicans pay for spreading lies about the about the health care bill. They need to make Republicans pay for bending to the will of the health insurance companies and big money.

Put some fear into them, or at least teach them what can happen.

from the FFB mentality of healthcare reform --

Inhofe: I'll Vote Against Reform Without Reading Bill

At a town hall meeting Wednesday Sen. Jim Inhofe told Chickasha residents he does not need to read the 1,000 page health care reform bill, he will simply vote against it.

"I don't have to read it, or know what's in it. I'm going to oppose it anyways," he said.

Inhofe said he was able to form such a strong, yet uninformed opinion through polls and the media.

I don't know if John McCain is lying or not, but last night he said in an interview that democrats have rebuffed his (and others') attempts to offer up their own health care solutions in committee.

I've actually stated a proposal for what I think would be acceptable healthcare reform.

Why not respond to that instead of acting like a troll?
