http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2097458 WASHINGTON -- The Washington Wizards extended a qualifying contract offer Wednesday to Kwame Brown, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 draft who was suspended at the end of last season. The offer makes Brown a restricted free agent, so the Wizards have the right to match any offer another NBA team makes him this offseason. The Wizards also made a qualifying offer to guard Steve Blake. Brown averaged 7 points and 4.9 rebounds in 42 games last season, slightly below his four-year career averages of 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds. He has yet to fulfill the potential that made him the first high school player to go first in an NBA draft. He was suspended for most of the postseason after missing a practice and Game 4 of the Wizards' first-round playoff series against the Chicago Bulls. "There is no saying that he won't be back with us," Washington president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld said last month. "We'll explore all of our options. We'll meet with him and his representatives and see where we are. There is a possibility that he will be back with us." Blake averaged 4.4 points and 1.5 assists in his second NBA season. He was a second-round draft pick in 2003 after helping Maryland win the 2002 NCAA championship.
They need to let that kid move on. He desperately needs a fresh start somewhere. I can't imagine him ever becoming productive in that atmosphere.
They only did this so they could set up a future sign-and-trade. There is no way they want him back but, at the same time, they don't want him leaving without compensation for the years of pain and frustration he has given them.
I saw we offer Juwan Howard. I'm sure Wizards/Bullets fans have fond memories of Howard. Seriously, I actually think the Wizards are one of the few teams who could use Howard's services. They need some stable, competent depth at PF, especially if Kwame's gone. I doubt a trade like this would fly, but I think there's some basis for discussion among the teams.
Forget Kwame. There is more to being young and having potential. He's never had a strong work ethic, clearly still doesn't have his head on straight since he misses practices in the playoffs when he knows his contract is up and really has only been an average post presence. The KID is still a project after having been in the league for years.
why the hell do we want a lazy, unmotivated, team cancer, piece of crap like kwame brown??? seriously, he brings very littel to the table. and the wizards won't get anything more than a bench player who rarely sees the floor for him if they do decide to trade him. plus, i'd rather have juwan howard any day of the week over him.
