I read "breakfast of champions" a year ago. and it was allright. i didnt really catch the whole drift of the book. if anyone would like to explain what hes trying to say i would appreciate it. i remember most of it vaguely. i havent tried reading any of his other books, but i notice they are very critically acclaimed and what not...a lot of people i used to know have liked them... any particular Kurt V books that i should start out with...? and those of you who enjoy his writing, why do you....?
At first glance I thought the thread was "Kurt Vonnegut Dead" and was horrified. Anyway, my fave book of his is God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater. If you're undecided about him still, you should probably start off with some of his great short stories. Bagombo Snuff Box has some good ones and can be found in many a library... I like him because he's funny. That Kilgore Trout guy is a riot.
...whoops, jumped the gun. double post? anyway...i thought..kurt was dead? is he still alive? vonegat that is....
As far as I know he's still kicking(released God Bless You, Dr. Kervorkian a year or two ago). He did try to commit suicide awhile back.
"Cat's Cradle" "Mother Night" are two of my favorite Vonnegurt books. I love how his books combine darkness and light, mundane and profound. I find a great streak of humanitarianism in his books, without any delusion that life is always a fair, or happy proposition.
i doubt that very much. why does it matter if i spell his name wrong? everyone got my drift? as long as people know what im talking about it doesnt matter at all. but maybe you know something i dont... dear Jesus, make me a good speller when i wake up tomarrow.
I know alot that you don't. And I know a lot that you do. And it was a joke that was very telling and informative. Keep preying. Act on...
the only things you can assume i dont know, are the questions i ask on here. you can make assumptions about everything else but you dont know a damn thing about me. you can say i dont know how to spell kurt vonnegut's name and you can sift through other threads ive started and find other things you know i dont know. but i wouldnt call that alot. i dont start that many threads. youre a smart guy right? stop making assumptions.
Nevermind...you don't get it. When will Act II begin? I am eagerly anticipating that moment. Act I has been so long, drawn out, and unimaginative. Look to your own text - your answers are in them, muddied and veiled as they are. Get the South out of the mouth. Maybe you should go to a bar to try to pick up ugly older chicks who can dance...or just go to a middle school.
yeah i dont get it...but i can talk to myself too and you wouldnt get it either....add it to your list of things you know and i dont... ... but im not following you down there, man.... i have no low insults for you.... ..ive got nothing more to say....
..ive never read the book with rimbaud as the main character, so i cant come up with anything as clever. thats the only reason i dont have anything else to say..... ..no enemies please, i hate me more than you do trust me. ...just call me what you will and move on... i just wanted to know some good books and die peacefully. i'll read Cat's Cradle first and **** somebody's **** while im at it. theyre really one in the same. (all stemming from the amount of self esteem) the unimaginative act 1 continues... (i should make that my sig)
Don't leave us now Holden your on a pretty good roll, anyway hope to see you tomarrow. "keep Holden On"
Holden, I think rimbaud was joking about the 'knowing alot that you don't'...hence the winking smiley. Cat's Cradle is not a bad one to read. Keep asking the questions....you could be spending your time doing alot worse than finding provacative literature to read.
Thats my favorite too! I recommend that one. The first Vonnegut book I read was in 5th grade, Breakfast of Champions. He's funny, I like funny. "This is an ahole" *
I think it does matter. If somebody works their entire life in their chosen field of endeavor and shines so brightly in their work that they gain worldwide renown, then they deserve enough respect that we should at least look up his or her name to make sure we can spell it correctly before displaying it in a public forum. A good example of this is the fan at Minute Maid Park the day after Darryl Kile died that was holding a sign that read, "Kyle, we will miss you." A photo of this guy was posted on Yahoo! news and, personally, I was embarrassed for all Astro fans. I've read Slaughterhouse Five and really enjoyed it. It's been a while so I can't remembe too much about it. Also, his short stories are very good. Probably my favorite is Welcome to the Monkey House
The police in Rockville, MN. had to shoot a runaway emu the other day. http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/3028236.html
