There were rumblings yesterday that the Rockets could be a candidate to join a three-way transaction with the Raptors and Knicks involving Vince Carter. No specifics were mentioned, but it could involve Carter becoming a Knick and the Rockets getting a power forward, maybe Kurt Thomas who is from Texas. There doesn't appear to be too much substance to those whispers at this point. Dec. 16 - 8:52 am et Source: Toronto Sun I dunno about this. I love Kurt Thopmas' toughness and he has been absolutely lighst out this season from 20 foot on those jumpers. However, I have a feeling he would suck with the Rockets lol. But hey, betterthan mo or juwan, if just for his toughness
Thomas would be ideal for this team. When I think of the perfect player for our PF needs, he is near the top.
I concur, he seems very unselfish, knows his role, and oh yeah the most important thing.............HE'S A KNICK!! Pugs
Kurt Thomas would be a nice addition to our team as long as we arent giving up too much. What I like about Thomas is he brings a nasty attitude to a team that is very vanilla. We need some moxie on this team. We need some toughness and attitude. Thomas is also a very good spot up jump shooter along with being a decent rebounder. He would be a big improvement over what we have at the PF spot. Any move for Thomas however, I want to move either Taylor, Howard or Spoon. We cant take on another PF contract unless one of those guys is moved. Thomas is making 5.8M this year so he could be moved for Juwan Howard or Spoon. The only thing is that Thomas doesnt come off the books until AFTER the 2007/2008 season. With that in mind I would rather swap Howard for him considering their contract LENGTHS are similar.
So, after all the moaning and groaning about Jeff Van Gundy and the system he has installed, there are actually those who are advocating a trade in order to acquire a player that would only serve to reinforce the Van Gundy philosophy of basketball??? Kurt Thomas played under JVG w/ the Knicks, remember? I don't understand how is addition to the club would do anything for us besides maybe reverting more into the low scoring, ugly style of play that we've seen glimpses of last season and some this season. Stop the insanity. Reclaim the Glory! Say no to Kurt for Rockets PF '04! -Turbo
No more Knicks please! The only guy i would take from them is Crawford. And that might just be because JVG has never coached him.
I dont care if he is a former Knick or plays JVG style of play at all. At least he is aggressive, a decent shooter and a solid rebounder. Any of these are better than what Mo or Juwon is providing right now. Looks like Thomas is getting 11.7 pts and over 10 rebounds a game. Juwon with 7.4 ppg and 3.9 rpg as well as Mo's 7.4 ppg and 4.9 rpg arent getting it done. Any trade for KT that involves Mo or JH I would take in a minute.
everyday there is a rumor now that has "some rumblings" about us joining this trade, trying to make it a 3-way. they all say the same thing: they are just whispers, there isn't too much substance, nothing is on the table yet..." which do i believe? not too much substance for kurt...nothing on the table for donyell...just whispers about nene... so far there are two sources that said the rockets are talking with the raptors. one for the rose deal and another for marshall. i'm starting to believe that we want in the 3-way. JVG wants to get a knick either kurt or tim thomas, and either rose or marshall. one PF and one SF from each team would upgrade our fowards spots quickly.
I will say this - if there were 2 teams that are just as screwed up cap wise as the ROckets (and therefore be good trading partners) it would be the Raptors and the Knicks ... interesting how the 2 teams share a coach and 2 share a GM...
yeah, and you forgot to mention the part in the article where it said toronto would give us chris bosh for reece gaines.
The tidbit about Kurt Thomas came from... Rotoworld.com They were supplying their own commentary as to what Houston would be receiving in a deal between the three teams...
Rockets have the #19 payroll in the league, and the Knicks (#1) payroll is literally more than double that of ours. Further, only 5 players are on the books after next season. While I understand that it's fashionable on this BBS to bad mouth the front office, this really isn't a great area to go with. Evan
Well the Raptors just waived someone on their IR. Looks like they are taking on more players than they are sending.

TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston, New York, and Toronto being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston, New York, and Toronto had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
