Time to put all that coaching talk aside. At the same time, please hear me out. I understand not wanting your coach to work under basically a 1 year deal where he is a lame duck, but on the other side, what has warranted an extension? 1 winning season? Maybe a 2nd this upcoming year? Ahh it is what it is. I'll support whoever is here, player and coach wise.

I am pro-Kubiak but dam Bob you don't give coach with 31-33 record an extension??? His staff is all but set so that is no excuse...if they don't win at least 10 games next year Bob better be ready to eat the extra year.

Good points. I was on another board and they sorta brought up the same point. Just because he got an extension doesn't necessarily mean he is safe going forward.(Say the regress next year, or don't make the playoffs, as it is or well was playoffs or bust next year for Kubiak according to some). I jumped the gun on my thoughts, my fault. I saw extension and was thinking, what?!

Hope this doesn't end up as the David Carr extension fiasco.

Its a tough call, but I believe the right one.

    Just don't go overboard.

Did he say MULTI-YEAR contract extension? One extra year is fine with me, because McNair can still fire him if next year sucks again. But if Kubiak wins 6-8 games next year(likely given our schedule), what are they going to do?

I believe the Texans have reach the point when mediocrity just isn't going to cut it anymore. Heads must roll eventually or fans won't be showing up.

I will say that this could be a way to setup a big free agency period for the Texans. They may want to give FAs a sense of security and with no salary cap things could get nutty.

Wow, 4 years and a record UNDER .500 yet he gets an extension. I don't think he deserved to keep his job next season, but allowing him one more year was understandable. This seems ludicrous

Sigh if you only add one year onto his current contract then you show you still don't think he's your guy. Even if that is the best option.

If you sign him to a long term deal and he fails next season then you shoot yourself in the foot.

Guess we can hope for the best.

he is under 500 because he took over a complete wreck. Of course his record could be better, and probably should be.

but in the grand scheme, I think Kubiak has done enough to earn an extension, and as already stated, if 2010 doesn't pan out Bob can still show Gary the door.

I think this is the right call.

Who cares, is not like an extenstion is going save him from getting fired if he has another .500 season.

Next season is where the fan base (as a whole) will stop giving Bob McNair a free pass as a great owner who just hasn't found the right people yet.

the question that will haunt me is who decided on that half back pass against jags? shanny jr or kubes? whoever it was deserves to be fired. I know kubes will stick up for little shanny so we may never know.

also, they played great the first half against miami, then second half run ,run, run and the lead grows smaller and smaller. Whoever is deciding "oh the pass is working great, lets shut it down and start running which we cant do at all"

that i hope was shanny. if it was kubes deciding that then he needs to seriously draft a stud rb in 1 of first 2 rounds. Im reading he wants a guard or center really bad, possibly first round my gut feeling. He alluded to this in a interview in denver recently. Problem is I know he wont do the rb thing. Its like a pet peeve or something.

more than likely he will say over and over that the running game is bad, but then draft a center in first round, safety in second, and DT in third and we get some johnathon wells type in fourth if lucky.

I just wish there was a tomlinson or peterson type in late first that we can "steal". Cant you get centers in later rounds? Unless there is a mangold in first, you pass on it and go with earl thomas(fs) or rb.

Mcnair better be ready to eat the remainder of that extension if he decides to fire Kubes early into the extension.

I don't know about the rest of you, but if Kubes doesn't take this team to the playoffs next season then he should be gone IMO. No more building towards the future crap, the future is now for this team.

I myself and i'm sure others were almost ready to pull the trigger on the Kubiak tenure this year, but one more year will make or break him.

Damn so if Kubiak goes 5-11 next year his job is safe? I can see a 1yr extension like Wade Phillips but 4 years is insane for a coach who hasnt gone to the postseason.
