From Peter Vecsey, NYPost Fri/today, 'According to several sources, before the Sixers got into the above mix, a 3-way trade almost went down as follows: Thomas to Memphis; Antonio Daniels and No. 1 pick to Denver; Stromile Swift to Portland; and Posey to Houston. What killed it? Hubie Brown is not infatuated with Thomas.'
I wonder if CD ever had any interest in getting Mo Pete from Toronto instead of Posey. He would have likely lured more than just KT in a deal, but he's definitely a more polished offensive player than Posey and with significant playoff experience. Oh well, I'm happy with Posey anyways.
Interesting that Memphis was willing to give up Swift for Thomas. I remember a while back there were reports that Orlando really wanted Swift. Maybe the Rockets could have swung a deal for Mike Miller in a 3 way.
mike miller and mo pete are offencive minded players that struggle on the defencive end. we already have steve, cat, and yao shooting the ball. we dont need another guy who wants to score 20 a game. what we needed was defence and thats what we got.
Mo Peterson can score but he can be as streaky as Posey without the defense. Some people assume that just because Posey is known for his defense, he cant score. In reality, Posey is not only a good defender, he is a decent offensive player. In Denver, they relied on him too much to score, hence he was forced to create a lot of his own shots resulting in his low FG%. Here, he can pick his spots. More often than not, if he's wide open, he'll make you pay. He is also exccellent on the break which will help the Rockets transition game. His main weakness is that he's not a great dribbler. He is the perfect complementary player on offense and a potentially great player on defense. You really cant ask for anything more.
From the Grizzlies standpoint Kt may have been the stumbling point, but reports from Denver showed no interest in Daniels either. Denver made a commitmnet to younger players when Posey expressed interest in trying free agency. They wanted draft choices in return for Posey, not players. The Rockets added a #2 choice and Denver went for it. Larry Brown said he wanted KT for years after watching him in the off seasons in Philadelpia ,,,,,and was more than happy to give up a #1 choice for KT.
It has been reported today, that the league made a mistake in letting the three way trade go down, because one of the players had not been with their team long enough (or something like that). The league doesn't plan to undo the trade, but they are making unofficial apologies to all 29 teams, via fax/email. Raven
That doesn't seem possible..I mean, the NBA seems to go thru every deal with a fine toothed comb these days...where did you read/hear this?
That is exactly what we need. Another player that shoots first and asks questions later. He doesn't play any defense!
man let the bbs pick a team . . .we'd be dallas of last year trying to outscore people with NO DEFENSE Rocket River
