I was driving home today and when flipping stations on my radio I stopped on KRBE. They played a promo and called themselves "The World Famous KRBE." World famous? For what? What makes them world famous? This sounded so strange to me. I have no idea what KRBE did that has made them world famous. I'm betting that anybody with no ties to Houston or the FCC has never even heard of KRBE.
i'm trying not to take your post with offense!! having said that...it's my understanding that KRBE is well known througout the pop music world...it's been true to its format (whether you like it or not) for quite a long time. quite frankly, i'm not in the KRBE target market...i'm not a female between 18-30
Somehow I knew you'd show up in this thread. KRBE has fundamentally changed in the last few years. You nailed it though. The suits redefined the target audience. I'm sure they do a fantastic job pulling that audience in. There's just so much Brittany Spears that one man can listen to without ing his radio. I miss listening to KRBE and hearing music I love...and having it all be Sam Malone free.
They have recently been going with a lot more popcorn pop and urban contemporary and less "Flock of Seagulls." It could just be that I'm getting old and cranky.
that's exactly it...our music tastes change as we get older...but we have a hard time seeing that..instead we assume we always hated the crap we hate today!
Yep...it's Brittany Spears, followed by some really bad excuse for R&B...followed by a really cool song...follwed by Sh'Daisy or some crap like that.
No joke. Summer of '98 the were the K-Ci and JoJo "All My Life" All The Time station. That song was played at LEAST three times every hour.
just like every other pop station in the country... top 40 stations play top 40 songs...nothing more... if you don't like it, change the channel...i know i do!
I liked KRBE back when they played music minus the teeny bopper, minus the R&B, and minus the popular Country music. Believe it or not, the station was almost like 94.5 the Buzz or sholud I say 107.5 the buzz back, WAY back in the days.
when was that??? i don't remember that, and i've lived here all my life...i do remember it went from being pop to country and back to pop...but it made its return back to pop in the early to mid 80's and has been basically hitting the same demographic ever since...the tastes of that demographic have changed over time...but it's still hitting the mark...still gets pretty good arbitron ratings...and the drive home show is the highest ranked show in the state of texas last i heard.
I rarely listen to 104 at night or in the afternoon, SOS. But I do like the morning show for the most part. Sometimes it gets on my nerves when Sam rants on and on about stuff, but usually they are pretty cool/funny. I gotta like them, the first year they were giving away computers I won one from them!
I really didn't intend this to be a bash KRBE thread. I don't care for it all that much...but still. All I wanted to know was why they are "world famous." Innocent enough, right?
A lot of people listen overseas off of their website. There have been plenty of soldiers and people who have moved calling into the show from abroad. So from that they get the world famous? They are the biggest morning show in Texas, over 1.3 million listeners or something like that.
You stole my thunder. They are easily the worst station I have ever heard. Do they still have that annoying morning crew, Maria Todd and whats his name??
I can't believe someone actually listens to that morning show. I basically removed 104 from my presets b/c of the morning show. It is horrible.
