kobe's travelling was a "superstar call" - (yao's)

i think that part of the reason that they actually called the travelling on kobe was because it was yao that ran hard to trap him. if it had been any other player i think the ref may swallow the whistle. But with yao running over there hard i think the ref was forced to watch very carefully lest he make a phantom foul call on yao.

No it was a legitimate call. I liked the way the refs called the fouls on the Kobe's bigs though, nice for Yao to get season high in points.

don't get me wrong.. i think the call was correct also. i just think that since it was superstar on superstar the call was made, whereas i think if it was kobe against luther for example the whistle would have been silent...

    Oh, he traveled alright.

I rewinded that part 5 times just to make sure. He traveled. And yes, Kobe Bryant is human too, even though he might appear otherwise in certain stretches of certain games.

Oh, and Yao was robbed of a call when Brown hammered him on his shot...not to mention that T-Mac was fouled on multiple occasions under the Lakers' basket, with no calls.

Nobody is doubting that its a travel. The poster was trying to bring up that if anybody else were to trap kobe, such as luther head...then the ref would have let kobe traveled. Because it was Yao ming that forced it, the Ref called traveling.

I totally called that travel before refs called it.. and when they did.. the announcers didn't either notice it or didn't want to notice that it was so obvious. not only did he lift his pivot... he then lifted his other foot. Great call.

i think the travel call was made b/c of the fact kobe was so isolated. (and the ref is right next to him)

No, that was a legit travel. He took a couple of steps AND picked up his pivot foot. Couldn't be more obvious then that!

Kobe Bryant, based on last night's game, is nothing more than a whiny baby who has an entire organization and league wrapped around his little finger. Throughout that entire stretch towards the end of the game, there were quite a few bad calls/no calls that favored him, yet the SECOND a legitimate call went against him, he started whining to the refs. Then, another good call against him, and he whines even more. Then the travel call came, and I thought he was gonna punch the ref. He definitely did travel.

I don't care how many points you can score, if you travel with the game on the line in overtime, you don't deserve to be compared to Michael Jordan. If you complain THAT much because of legitimate calls, you aren't close to Mike.

Fact of the matter is that if that was anyone else in the league complaining that much, they would have been T'ed up twice and ejected from the game. Probably even before the travel call....

I'm sure we'll hear how the league's out to get Kobe though.

that's not what he meant. kobe's basically saying that what he did happens all the time in a game (jumo stop, then pivot while dragging the pivot foot), but the refs don't call it. they could call it, but they usually don't, so why would they call it at such a crucial time?

don't get me wrong, i'm glad they called it, and technically, it was a travel, but i can see why kobe would have a beef with the call.

you could call yao and juwan for traveling every time they do their move where they get the ball is the post, fake a shot to get the defender up in the air or off balance, then drive, quickly and subtly switching pivot feet at the beginning of their drive. sometimes that gets called, but often the refs let it go.

yea i think so too, i bet you kobe does that so often too, but doesn't get called.. as does most ball handlers in the nba. its good to see that the refs are starting to get on yao's side
