Gasol doesnt equal to championship. If they face the celtics i fully expect Gasol to get owned by KG. but Kobe is better regardless
If they win a championship it will be because of kobe, but gasol should help them get there if they get there. I too think kobe is better than shaq because kobe seems to really care about being a great player and he puts in the work. Shaq is big and strong and has gotten better, but you can't say he has put the same effort into his craft.
It's hard to compare different positions like that, but Kobe is definitely better, especially at this point in their careers. Even overall, Kobe is a lot better.
"when you get to 6 championships . .. call me and i will feign interest." - Big Shot Bob Rocket River
definitely kobe, shaq was better than kobe for a few years, but then kobe was better still overall, especially now that shaq has become a lazy fat ass with no work ethic
Shaq is the better player over the course of both careers. He will be the better player when Kobe's career has ended. You're talking about a man who has been to the Finals with 3 different teams (so far) vs. a cat that played second fiddle on 3 Championship teams but hasn't sniffed the second round when he was the best player on the team. Not to mention you always go with the big man and considering Shaq is a top 5 Center of all time in almost everyone's book I don't even see how this comparison can be brought up.
yeah, the fact that shaq keeps changing teams, does it suggest something to you? selfish and wanting the ball too much? even now as bad as he is, he still complained how heat does not give him the ball. and consider how he won his championships, would he have done it w/out kobe? nonono, and he was not even the no.1 player on heats when they won their shady championship over the better mavs. so shaq is top 5 center, and kobe is not top 5 SG? many would rank kobe up right there with MJ(except the haters, the sheer number of haters kobe has against him just tells how great kobe is)
Judging from your post it seems you dont like Shaq the person. We arent talking about whether he is selfish or not.
In this season, kobe is better, but overall and looking at the prime of they careers I say Shaq. I think Shaq now with the Suns have more chance to win the championship that Kobe with Gasol.
The question is kind of confusing. Obviously, Kobe is a better player now. Over their careers, it will be tough for Kobe to match what Shaq has accomplished. In my opinion, Shaq's one of the top 10 players of all time and arguably the greatest center of all time. When he was in his prime, I've never seen a more dominating interior presence.
Exactly. Dominant Big Man > Dominant SG No player since Wilt changed the game as much as Shaq did in his prime. Not even Hakeem or MJ.
What exactly did Shaq change? He didn't win until his position was arguably the weakest in league history, he always had talent and he hasn't won more than the other dude from his generation (Duncan)? Not to mention he lost to both of those dudes (Hakeem and MJ).
Far more than Kobe has. As great as Kobe's scoring and record breaking performances have been.....as the main man....he has yet to get out of the first round. Shaq got one of the worst teams in the league to 41 wins in his rookie season, lead them to playoffs the next year, and progressed further. Shaq made his teams better in his entire career from Magic and to possibly the Suns. He is a truly dominate big man, he should have at least 3 or 4 MVPs....even over Robinson, Iverson, and Nash who are all inferior players. On the other hand, Kobe has not lead his teams anywhere and I suspect good bit of it is because he is not a leader or a player who has certain intangibles. He can come up with big plays and scoring domination. He is not Michael Jordan, he can produce a lot of what Jordan did....but Jordan had intangibles, people skills, and certain nastiness....and even not as great defender, rebounder, passer, and etc as MJ. Shaq "won" LA, three titles, he lead the team in scoring, commanding most of double/triple teams, lead in rebounding, block shots, altered shots, fear factor, and change the whole floor on offense and defense. I believe Shaq could've won or even challenged for finals with lesser SGs, you can't say the same for Bryant, even at his best I doubt he could carry a team deep into playoffs without a deep roster or competent big men, see last 3 seasons. Shaq doesn't have need the ball to be effective, Kobe does. even without scoring, Shaq can still be the most effective player on the floor --- still commanding double teams, rebounding, blocking shots, defense, getting the other team in foul trouble, and etc. If Kobe can't score, alot of nights he is in full hoist mode, but to his credit he plays great defense Even during their title run, you could see the team was much better with Shaq than Kobe...the team struggled without Shaq, but with Shaq and not Kobe the team was only slightly worse....not much. Shaq could possibly challenge for top 5 or 6 best player of all time, while Kobe maybe top 8 to 11
shaq can challenge top 5, 6 center position, not of all players, while kobe contends for top 5 of all players
