Looks like a pretty good trade for all parties assuming a NG verdict.

No way Kobe gets traded to Jerry West and the Grizzlies.

I doubt Kobe would leave the Lakers but if he did it would be to the Clippers. He stays IN LA and at the same time can team up with Elton Brand and Corey Meggette. Imagine the Laker/Clipper rivalry that would be with Kobe joining the other team.

I think it would be appropriate for the Lakers to lose Kobe for NOTHING over the summer since they pretty much got Shaq for NOTHING from the Magic.

I wonder, if Kobe left...would Malone and Payton leave too? Are they on one year deals?

They cleared cap space... What's the big deal with that?

Using that logic, the Rockets "deserve" to lose someone for nothing if you consider that we got Pippen for Roy Rogers.

I think Malone and Payton are on 2-year deals, not completely sure though.

They have no reason to leave, if Ray Allen or the like is Kobe's replacement. Allen is probably a better fit for LA than Kobe. Though Allen will need to become tougher mentally and physically if he doesn't want to be in Phil's doghouse.

It would be a good trade for the Grizz. I don’t know if it’s good enough to make them significantly better than they are now (6th in the West). They could possibly pass the Mavs and maybe the Lakers in the standings if they continue to flounder.

I think the Lakers might be better off going for the Gasol/Miller package. They really need some depth on that team. Plus, the Lakers have been going through injury problems all season, and Ray Allen has been kind of fragile lately.

If only we knew where Showbe wanted to go. If he´s determined to rejoin Jerry West, then this trade mentioned is awesome for all teams, especially given the matchup of sharpshooter Ray Allen with Shaq down low.

I wouldn´t want to see it happen because Seattle would kick some major A with that lineup.

If anything, if Kobe´s new address is not a jail cell, then I would think he would want to stay in California. His wife´s family is there, yes? No? I think so. Another rumor from earlier in the year was when Kobe mentioned to Mike Dunleavy to keep capspace available, and other more recent trades mention how the Clippers are trying to clear a little extra capspace to make sure they can give Kobe his max salary while also having some cash to keep QRich.

Wow that trade would benefit everyone and I've heard Kobe and West have an awesome relationship. Memphis beter lock him up that would suck if he got traded there and then left as a free agent.

That would be an awesome trade for everyone, but wow Allen, Shaq would be a lethal combo since RAllen will defer to Shaq and that would help settle things down over there.

The LA media seem to buy into Kobe's leaving this summer. Some has rumored that Kobe has already made up his mind not to be a Laker after this season.

I'm pretty sure Malone will retire. And with Phil Jackson's contract thing, sounds like the Lakers are going to be blown up. So they have one more shot at the title this year and that's it.

would be cool if he left the Fakers...

But it says he wants to remain a laker, so most likely he will. Houston won't pay the BIG bucks he would want....I bet he stays.

    Why would he leave?
Shaq will be out in two years. Then it will be Kobe's team for the rest of his career.

It is still the LA LAKERS. Being the franchise of Memphis Grizzlies is totally different from being the franchise of LA LAKERS, you know.

No, I don't live in LA.

He's going to leave because he's a selfish player with a Keyshawn Johnson attitude. Kobe is an overrated player and a plague to any team he goes to that has players of any decent caliber... the only way he will really shine is to go to a team where he can shoot up 40 shots a game and not blink twice. If the Lakers are smart they'll get rid of him early so they can get something other then a headache for him.

He's said he wants to remain a laker, but "test the free agent waters" and when a player says that you know they're leaving.

If Kobe leaves, I'd bet money he becomes a Clipper. Clippers are likely going to move Dooling/Ely to get themselves to about $13 million in cap space this summer.

Lakers won't trade Kobe to the Griz/West, but hope for a S&T is partially why Memphis is so top heavy with swingmen right now.

Malone and Payton both have player options for next year.

    Unless they're Jason Kidd, right?

I don't think Kobe is overrated, necessarily. I never liked his punk attitude and Shaq did help him back it up. I don't think he needed to humble himself with an act of monumental stupidity, though, but he did, and we'll see where it leads.

I kinda wish he would sign with Charlotte but isn't that wishful thinking on my part? A lot will have to do with whether his wife is OK with leaving LA because you know Kobe has a long way to go to patch it up with her.

Also, Kobe is simply very different than Shaq. Kobe does love the game. Shaq has taken a lot of pounding over the years and what's more is a lot lazier. He'd just show up for the playoffs if he could.

So, yes, Kobe swims in the Sea of Kobe, and no, he couldn't win every game alone. But if he had his "Pippen" he might do OK.

I'm sorry, but plagues do not win 3 titles in a row. Does he have an ego? Of course. But that's totally different than being a plague.

Credit Phil Jackson for winning with the "plague". Or credit Shaq for being able to lead the team, despite the "plague". It's funny how no Laker receives credit for winning. Apparently every Laker is overrated and is an egomaniacal cancer.

Good logic, because Jermaine O'Neal and Tim Duncan have left as FAs too...

If you have not noticed, star players who command the max re-sign with their team 99% of the time.

Lakers are not trading Kobe before the offseason. Here are my rankings by probability.

    1. Philly. Sign and Trade for AI. (AI: the Fresh Prince of Belaire)
    2. Phoenix (not enough dough currently, but a S&T with J. Johnson would do it)
    3. Memphis (no cap room but multiple S&T options with multiple teams)
    4. Clippers
    5. Lakers
    6. Atlanta
