Just watching this clipper game and man Kobe hacks and gets some pretty pathetic foul calls the defense is defenseless you cannot breathe on the guy Rocket River
Kind of like all the calls Iverson was getting against the Rockets a couple of weeks ago. I hate the star treatment in the NBA>
How come Kobe and AI get the Jordan treatment when their teams SUCK? Is the league that desperate for a superstar to replace Jordan? The play that comes to mind was when we played the 76ers, and AI drove through the lane, and all of our players ran away from him, clearing a path to the basket like the parting of the Red Sea, and we still got called for a foul.
That was definately rediculous. Juwon got whistled for that one. I think his shorts made contact with AI's airspace.
No one is near in the same league as Iverson in this category. If he is 10 feet around the basket it's almost sure a whistle..
Ding! We have a winner! Make no mistake: the NBA is sweating bullets right now. Ratings are down, attendance is wavering, fans are disgruntled, the integration of foreign players has not been the cash-cow they hoped for, the usage of NBA players in international competition such as the Olympics has become an embarrassment, and, to top it all off, their star players are viewed as "thugs" by the mainstream media and casual fans. Oh, and the two largest media markets are playing mediocre (L.A.) or terrible (NY) basketball. The NBA is desperate for ANY good news, at this point. If they could have Kobe AVERAGE 81 points a night, they'd do it in heartbeat. More points=more ratings (in their minds, at least), just like more homeruns=more ratings in baseball, and more touchdowns=more ratings in the NFL. Sadly, the equation is not entirely wrong, but I think the players that receive the special treatment (especially Kobe) are so personally repellant, they offset any boost given by their inflated scoring averages.
If the NBA wants to create a new superstar, they should give this kind of treatment to the most popular player in the NBA, you know, the one who has led all All-Star balloting for consecutive years. Instead, Yao gets beaten within an inch of his life every night yet only averages 6 FTA per game.
Why doesnt Yao get any calls like the others do. As I recall, you cant even look at Dirk without the whistle blowing.
it is not only on one end. I think he is a good defender but he mauled a clipper for a steal no call Rocket River
Huh? Have you been watching the games since Christmas? Tmac got hammered in the nose in one game, then I think it was the Lakers a few games later and - he was driving in, the defenders were deliberately putting their arms up and clobbering him in the face to hit his injured nose, knocked to the floor, and no call. and more than once. I figured out real fast why Tmac would not drive the lane for the last two months. Personally, like another poster in another thread, I figure this is the JVG effect from last playoffs with the refs. Yao and Tmac get much less star treatment than other top 10 players. Also, I think the refs have reversed 3 or 4 favorable calls on the Rockets this season. I have yet to see one reversed against an opponent. And I never remember seeing a reversal in any other NBA game I've watched. Anyone else? I actually thought the refs were calling the Warriors pretty well for the first half, but then they returned to form in the 2nd half. Rafer's fingers barely touch the shoulder of a Warrior big and it is a call. Yao gets hammered and? And what was that offensive foul where Yao spun around I think Foyle, Foyle slammed Yao and threw up his leg to block Yao and Yao was called for a charge. We seem to get the strangest and most obvious stupid non-fouls called against us. Yes, I know it happens to the other team as well, but it sure seems to be 70% for us and 30% for them, and many of our bad calls are just totally flagrant misses by the refs like the Dallas out of bounds.
