In my opinion, being that I work in the legal profession, this case is pretty much done and over with due to the mishandling of the case itself.

Pretty damaging letter, which if a ploy by the attorneys of the plaintiff, also pretty stupid in itself.

Why is the letter stupid? Isn't he just voicing his displeasure about the way the case it being handled? What wrong with that?

This whole case is stupid anyway. I'm tired of reading about it.

It's stupid from a legal perspective because not only that it supercedes the Victims right to a fair trial, but it has created a PR circus that wasn't necessary. I don't think the victims dad really wrote the letter without the help of his counsel.

I not a lawyer, but it seems to me that the father of the victim writing a personal letter to the judge is a bad idea. It goes outside the procedure of the courts and therefore, the judge wouldn't be able use it in any way.

If the Father really wrote this he already knew that she was going to drop the case in favor of a civil suit.

It's a shame that we will never really know the truth.

i've always wondered...this may be a stupid question but um, why doesn't the judicial system use/allow lie detectors to supplement the evidence used in cases

The chief witness in the Bare Bryant case should sue the State of Colorado for actual and punitive damages. A court official can make a mistake once, but THREE times. Give me a break. Whether true or not, it sure looks like a Bryant agent paid off somebody in the judicial process.

Lie detectors can be unreliable and are not all that accurate.

i don't think he's trying to have it "used" in any way, shape or form. he's venting...most likely because he believes his daughter was raped (whether she was or not) and has watched this court make a mockery of procedure and the sensitivity of the case with the media. an absolute joke. small town judge...small town results.

i'm telling you...if this were my daughter...and i truly believed she were raped...and i saw from the court prosecuting the guy i believed did it what this guy is seeing from the court...they'd be lucky they're only getting a letter from me.

True to a point, but the FBI, CIA, and all agencies of that sort use them big time. Anita Baker passed one when she accused Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of sexually harrassing her (is that a pube on your coke?). That and her professionalism made it real tough for anyone to call her a liar. Not saying that it's impossible she lied and somehow passed the dectector...but you know, if Kate Faber takes and passes a lie dectector, I believe she will get an overwhelming swing of public opinion....and since it's in the public opinion court now, it's something she should do if she can pass it. So I'm not saying it's 100%, but if it was a totally BS piece of crap machine, no one would use it nowadays.

i don't think it's that it's a POC, it's just that it's most likely inaccurate enough that you can't use it for "beyond a reasonable doubt" because there could be reasonable doubt that it was wrong. apparently they're making these new lie detectors for your eyes that are supposedly very accurate. wonder if they'll ever be used in court.

why? what business of ours is it to know the details? i don't really know much about the law and stuff - but a civil suit will still have an outcome, no?

But eye witnesses, along with many other admissable types of evidences, can also easily be inaccurate. So that seems like a pretty lame excuse.

I believe lie detectors aren't made to detect "lies" but symptoms of lies such as nervousness. It is possible being as emotional of an issue to her as it is, the detector could falsely say she is a lier and even futher damage her position. I don't think it is a fair way to test things for both parties and it would not substantially prove anything.
