http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0724/1585001.html Just days after admitting to millions of people that he cheated on his wife, Kobe Bryant has reportedly spent millions on a gift for her. The Lakers star called what he did adultery. You can call what he bought his wife, Vanessa, whatever you want: damage control or sincere apology attempt. According to the New York Post, People Magazine will be on the newsstands Friday with a report that Kobe has purchased a $4 million eight-carat, purple diamond ring for his wife. "They looked very happy together," Raffi, the man who made the ring, told People after the couple picked it up Monday at an exclusive jewelry boutique in Santa Monica, Calif. Raffi also made the couple's wedding rings two years ago, according to People. The new bauble was specially commissioned two weeks ago. Bryant was charged Friday with a single count of felony sexual assault against a 19-year-old woman at an exclusive spa where he was staying when he came to Colorado for knee surgery. If convicted, he faces four years to life in prison or 20 years to life on probation, and a fine of up to $750,000. At Friday's news conference, Kobe defended himself against the assault charge, but admitted to committing adultery with the accuser. Vanessa Bryant was at her husband's side during the news conference and released a statement. "He is a loving and kind husband and father," she said in the statement. "I believe in his innocence. Because I know him to be innocent, I will stand by him and we will face this together." Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
I think he is trying his best to generate positive publicity to balance out the guerilla smear campaign his handlers are waging.
Typical...show her you really love her with a superficial gesture that costs a fortune. Obviously, he (and most likely she) is an idiot in regards to all of this.
Lame if true. But what do you do man. There's no way to get that trust back. He's pretty much resigned himself to a sucky life with that deed. She'll never trust him. And that's only going to cause problems on top of problems.
Its better than if he didnt buy her anything. At least he is trying to do something to make it better. Its better that she gets a 4 million dollar ring as opposed to Kobe buying 4 million dollars worth of stuff for himself.
I mean how much money does she needs? Me and I know alot of people will root for her if she leaves that scumbag Kobe. She needs to show him the optimus consequences by showing him that she'll not take this likely and leaving the idiot with half his money.
I can't believe that ESPN would actually post on their website as a story. Is this what poses for news these days? Quick, somebody find out what Kobe and his wife had for dinner last night! The world deserves to know the truth.
And that's just a SMALL down payment on what is to come...As Jim Bakker found out the hard way: PTL - Pay the Lady!
How long before we see "ABC Movie of the Week- The Kobe Bryant Story" Starring Will Smith as Kobe, JLo as Vanessa and Britney Spears as the victim?
lolz the same thing i was thinking. i'd bet it comes out in mid to late 2005 since the trial wont be over until mid 2004. anyways, the buying of the ring is really heartbreaking. either his wife is a big gold digger, or kobe is an idiot for thinking he can buy back her trust. relationships that are materialistic don't last long and i can definitely see this one ending that way. is there anything else that this guy can do where we can't judge his character (and for good reason) as being questionable. his image keeps getting worse as this phase of his life continues. what other skeletons does this guy have. a very shallow act after a very shallow act of cheating.
Golly, I wish I could buy my wife a $4 million dollar rock when she gives me the business for spending too much time on the Net. Kobe is really showing class with his gesture. (insert roll-eyes here)
Well your average Joe would buy his wife roses or something like that for cheating on his wife. Your average millionaire buys a 4 millions dollar ring to make up
