I never thought he was guilty. This is really bad for his reputation. Great player in my book......The Lakers are gonna be tough next season. They are charging him for Sexual Asssault.

I wonder if I made the title " Will charges on Kobe help the Rockets any next season?", would it need to go to the GARM section.....:D

I was just saying since it was about an NBA player would it need to go there. Just my thought.

He didn't rape her. I give ZERO credibility to some 19 year old girl that just wants fame and cash.

There's gotta be some credibility to her story...the DA says he has both physical and witness evidence, and obviously took plenty of time to determine whether he should be charged or not.

He's innocent until proven guilty, but I don't think they would've filed charges without something tipping them off.

Charges pressed by DA after two weeks of deliberation

EAGLE, Colo. -- Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant has been charged with one count of felony sexual assault, Eagle County prosecutor Mark Hurlbert announced today after two weeks of deliberation.

Bryant will face four years to life in prison, if convicted.

“ I made the mistake of adultery. I have to answer to my wife and my God for my actions that night and I pray that both will forgive me. ”
    — Kobe Bryant, in a statement released by his attorney

Bryant's Denver-based attorney, Pamela Mackey, has scheduled a news conference at 9 p.m. ET time tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, but there is no word whether Bryant will be there. Mackey also released a statement on Bryant's behalf shortly after the announcement.

"I am innocent of the charges filed today. I did not assault the woman who is accusing me," Bryant said in the statement. "I made the mistake of adultery. I have to answer to my wife and my God for my actions that night and I pray that both will forgive me. ... Nothing that happened June 30th was against the will of the woman who now falsely accuses me."

Bryant, 24, turned himself in to authorities July 4 and was released on $25,000 bond. The woman claims he attacked her at the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera in nearby Edwards on June 30.

His attorney has said the five-time NBA All-Star is innocent and was in Colorado for knee surgery at a Vail clinic. In a brief interview with the Los Angeles Times last week, Bryant said he "would never do something like that.''

Bryant attended the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, but avoided the media in his first public appearance since his arrest. He sat in the audience smiling and laughing with his wife, Vanessa.

I think it is pretty cold to dismiss such serious charges on assumed motivations. You don't even know the girl's name, let alone her motivation for filing charges. What's more, you don't really know Kobe Bryant either and what he's likely to do or not do. The evidence will come at trial. Bash the chick then when you have something concrete to appeal to.

Most of the people on here seem to be giving ZERO credibility to you!

Can we close this thread since there's one in the NBA section?

But Kobe plays basketball on T.V. so he must have more creditibility.

I had read Reports that other NBA'ers stated she was a Basketball Player 'groupie' and she had allegedly tried to get fame through American Idol etc.

And all we know of Kobe's clean 'image' is what was created for us to think from his Agents etc. We have no idea what he is like because of his interviews and what his sprite commercials say.

I'm not forming an opinion either way till more evidence is presented. But my gut feeling is they had sex, then the girl decided it was her time to get paid. Thats just the situation in this country, look for someone to sue, either the basketball player that will screw you or the cheeseburger you ate from McDonalds.

I love this woman. He has a beautiful wife and she is sticking by him. This is going to be an interesting trial. No doubt this will hurt his image. Here is THEIR statement.....

    Statement from Kobe Bryant:
"I am innocent of the charges filed today. I did not assault the woman who is accusing me.

"I made the mistake of adultery. I have to answer to my wife and my God for my actions that night and I pray that both will forgive me.

"Nothing that happened June 30th was against the will of the woman who now falsely accuses me.

"These false allegations have hurt my family. I will fight against these allegations with all my strength. My wife is the strongest person I know. She is willing to stand by me despite my mistake. That means everything to me.

"I have so much to live for. And by that I do not mean the contracts, or the money, or the fame. I mean my family. I will fight for them.

"I appreciate all those who have supported me. Thank you for believing in me. My family and I are going to need your support and prayers now more than ever."

    Statement from Vanessa Bryant:
"I know that my husband has made a mistake -- the mistake of adultery. He and I will have to deal with that within our marriage, and we will do so. He is not a criminal.

"I know that he did not commit a crime, he did not assault anyone. He is a loving and kind husband and father. I believe in his innocence.

"Because I know him to be innocent, I will stand by him and we will face this together. I will give him all the strength and support he needs to face these false accusations. I will not let him face these accusations alone.

"I know Kobe better than anyone. The great person you see on the court and in the public is a far greater person off the court."

You don't know this. You weren't there. There are only 2 people that know exactly what happened.

This is not an "opinion" issue. Just because more people believe one or the other does not change the facts.

Interesting, given that her name hasn't been made public and she hasn't made any moves to file a civil suit.

    Disgusting.

I really doubt that you've known anyone who's ever been raped. If you had, you'd never make such an asinine comment as this. Rape is a very serious matter that can completely ruin a person's life. One of the people I love more than anything in this world has had to deal with it twice, and it kills me inside to know what she's had to go through to deal with it.

by the way...if he is convicted, there SHOULD be a money judgment coming her way. that would likely make him liable for civil assault as well...and if he did that, i wouldn't have much sympathy for him losing millions of dollars.

I think Kobe's trying to follow in MJ's footsteps by committing adultery. Soon enough, he'll be gambling big bucks in Vegas...
