Then you too may be eligible to be kicker for one Oregon St. Beavers team. The obvious statement of the night is that they beat LSU in regulation if that crap kicker can put one of three missed PAT's through the uprights. I do feel sorry for him, but it just seems inconceivable that he could miss 3 of them. Half jokingly, I wondered if they'd go for two right off the bat in Overtime. Guess it would've been a good idea.... Ughhhh, LSU should be 0-1.
I saw that game as well. That last PAT attempt wasn't even close. It's a pretty safe bet that his days as the OSU kicker are numbered.
I felt so bad for that kicker. He was just destroyed by that. I really hope his roommate didn't let him take any sharp objects to bed last night. Poor guy.
I saw that game, too. The kicker was just going insane with self-hate after that third boot. That game sure put the brakes on his college football career.
Since the guy is a redshirt freshman, I assume he has a scholarship. I'm surprised that a scholarship kicker at a Division 1-A school can't make an XP.
Everyone misses one every once in a while, but three?!?!? I think I could make one out of three without even practicing. If that guy makes 1 out of the 3 he missed, the game is over. Unbelievable.
There was a (horrible) running joke about an Alabama kicker 5 years ago who missed the same PAT in OT in the '99 Orange Bowl. Yeah, he was so upset that he lost the game that he tried to hang himself. Unfortunately, he missed the bucket he was standing on. Wow, hard to believe Tom Brady was the QB of Michigan not that long ago.
I have watched lots of football in my life, and I have never seen someone miss 3 extra points in a game. My old high school has a girl kicking for them and she hasn't missed an extra point yet in 2 games (11 for 11). Too bad she wasn't available for Oregon State last night. The assertion that LSU is overrated is a safe one, I feel.
I just don't understand how the coach was yelling and screaming for a TO so he could go for 2 and NO ONE on OSU saw it! I wanted LSU to lose so badly...nothing against them, just love the smell of "upset" early in the CFB season.
I think the only thing you can say for certain regarding the missed PATs, is that the game would have gone into a 2nd OT had the last kick been good. OSU's last TD was in the 3rd quarter. I suspect LSU's play calling would have been different had they been down 9 or 10 instead of 8. There is less desperation being 8 points behind. You can't say for sure that OSU would have won in regulation if either or both of the first 2 kicks had been good.
We(my high school team) had a heartbreaker friday night. We went into the 4th quarter up 20-7. We had missed one of the extra points. The team we played was supposed to win the region and everything else, and our team is supposed to suck. Anyways, they came back and scored with about 5 minutes left, but went for the 2 point conversion and missed. They got the ball back about a minute later, and drove down the field. They scored again, with 34 seconds left, and ended up making a two point conversion to win by 1. Goes to show just how important special teams are.
