The only reason this computes is because the Knicks are betting their franchise on the summer of 2010. For a player like Duhon this salary is crazy money, but it's only for 2 years. I bet he would have taken the same $12 million over 3 or 4 years but the Knicks want him off the books.
I can't believe the Knicks are going to flat out release Marbury. No thought of even trying to use his expiring. Guess its been thought out but makes no sense to me.
Duhon & Gallinari bring the Knicks up to 15. They're in no rush to cut Marbury before the season opener... marbury, duhon, robinson crawford, q-rich, collins gallinari, jeffries, balkman, chandler randolph, lee, rose curry, james
I thought Grant Hill ended this business. Sure many of Duke's guards have not lived up to expectations (Hurley, Jason Williams, Redick) but the first two were due to injury and the third to playing time. Duke's forwards (Brand, Maggette, Battier, Dunleavy, Boozer, Shelden Williams) have certainly fared better, but you could say the same thing about UNC. Since Jordan, only Stackhouse and Carter really come to mind as a guard that developed well. Felton and McCants haven't exactly blown anyone away yet. I think every college can point to a hot prospect that turned into an NBA bust. That's how the NBA works. It's the next league, most collegiate players are not going to make it, no matter how good they looked in the NCAA. As for Duhon, he's a good player; anyone with a 4/1 A/TO ratio in the NBA is good. But he wasn't worth the midlevel exception, even if only for two years as is being reported. But for the sake of all the naysayers out there I hope he does well so they have one less person about which to bandy their "I told you so"s.
Keep the turnovers low, shoot half your shots from 3 at a semi-passable %, throw in a little defense, you can get PAID as a point guard! - Signed,
Duhon is classic example that A/TO ratio does NOT define how good a player is. You have to watch him instead of just looking at that one stat. He was garbage last season and is not a good player.
exactly. ast/to ratio is a stat that makes guys look good when they don't penetrate or try to make an assist. play it safe, keep the ball on the perimeter, and your ast/to ratio will be up. antonio daniels and kevin ollie made their careers off of this stat. neither are a play making guard.
It seems at least Donnie Walsh, Mike D'Antoni, and Stan Van Gundy disagree with the "garbage" assessment. The guy ain't gonna win you games by himself, but is a good complementary piece on a good team. The question is if the Knicks are good enough for a Duhon to make a difference.
Considering Dantoni is probably gonna bring in an offense where all the players are moving w/o the ball, a very low assist to TO ratio will be more important next year than Starbury pounding the ball just long enough to get 1 pass off and hope he gets an assist for it. With Randolph and other scorers, i wouldn't be surprised if Duhon is more of a piece in the overall team scoring picture than Marbury if he returns to ride the bench. Management is probably hoping he blows up and refuses the bench role so they can suspend him indefinitely rather than having to cut him so he gets paid. If this is the case i'd say Duhon is worth every penny and more if he gets Starbury to leave.
Duhon is an ok backup but certainly is not worth the MLE even for 2 years. I don't see him making a significant impact for the Knicks. Thank God I am not a Knick fan.
These kinda sites are entertaining. Duhon comes across as the professional no frills (no skills?) good old boy from Duke Land. Yet even he parties it up hard NBA style (like I can blame him).
What are the expectations for the Knicks while they go through this rearrangement? They had 23 wins this past season and the Nets will likely be weaker, but other Eastern Conference teams might be a bit stronger in 2008 - 2009.
