    Kurt Thomas Re-Signs With Knicks

NEW YORK (AP) - Kurt Thomas, the Knicks' third-leading rebounder, re-signed with New York on Tuesday as the team continued to pursue a trade for Portland's Brian Grant.

Thomas, a five-year veteran, first signed with the Knicks two seasons ago after playing for Miami and Dallas. A starter for much of his first season with New York, Thomas played in a reserve role most of last season and averaged 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds.

``I'm grateful for the commitment the Knicks have made to me,'' Thomas said. ``I'm glad to get the contract out of the way, now I can concentrate on the upcoming season and help us reach our goal of winning a title.''

The 6-foot-9 power forward established career highs last season in games (80), minutes (1,971), rebounds (505), assists (82), blocks (42), steals (51), field goal percentage (.505) and free throw percentage (.781).

As a senior at TCU, Thomas became only the third player in NCAA history to lead Division I in scoring and rebounding. His pro career has been hampered by several foot injuries.

The Knicks remain interested in acquiring another rebounder, with Grant at the top of their wish list.

The New York Post reported Tuesday that New York was talking with Cleveland and Portland about a three-team deal that would send Marcus Camby and Chris Childs to the Cavaliers, Shawn Kemp to the Trail Blazers and Grant to the Knicks.

Damnit! I guess that rules us out of contention for Kurt Thomas services... and also for any thoughts of a trade for Brian Grant....
