Didn't see this posted. Seems like Stevie could have been a Rocket again. Not sure if that is good or bad thing. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/story/503707p-424840c.html
No. You must be a free agent before March to sign on with a team and be eligible to play in the postseason. Evan
With all due respect to Stevie, and I loved him for his heart when he was a Rocket, I don't understand why anybody would want him back. He just does not play smart basketball, and I don't think he would be good for this team at all.
I think you are overestimating his boneheadedness and underestimating his heart and skill level of getting to the rim and finishing, not to mention his shooting. In this season, possibly Francis' worst season with his nagging injuries and playing in New York, he is a better combo guard than Mike James and everybody knows we wanted Mike James. I think if he becomes a free agent, we should be tripping over ourselves to sign him for the MLE. He would unquestionably be the third scoring option that we need that can create his own shot. It's a no brainer.
Then who's playing smart basketball on the Rockets with actual Point Guard duty, except for the All-Star SF/SG TMac?
Even if he was bought out, I strongly doubt Stevie would have come back to play with the Rockets again. Instead -- as almost all washed up, former all-stars do -- he would have gone down to Miami and joined The Diesel...either that or the Lakers, may be even the Spurs. Just not the Rockets.
No I think he gave some indications that Houston was his first choice...plus the fact that his home and fans are here...not to mention the fact that we are a contending team, moreso than Miami IMO
excellent ball handling skills, good at passing, can hit from 3 pt line, rafer is good enough to be rox starting point guard.
wait.. As part of the agreement, the Knicks planned to release Francis before March 1 because any player cut after that date is prohibited from being on a playoff roster. and how come the article is on March 8th?
It's going to be very interesting to see how kind you guys are to McGrady when he fails to deliver a ring.
The problem with Francis was never his scoring or heart, it's that if he's our starting PG we are going to give up 5 more turnovers per game. Can we afford that? Or is his scoring ability worth it?
The thing i find out about Stevie from his Orlando days is, he is capable of playing smart basketball. the reason he doesn't is because he overrated himself due to all the media attention he gets. he thought he was at Kobe, Tmac's level, and a lot people thought so too, which he is not by far. that was his real problem, he need to come down to earth in order to play smart ball. I think the frustrating expereice of his recent 2 yaers maybe could bring him down back to earth again. so there is a chance that hes willing to play smart ball again.
I think it's pretty obvious he's going to be the #1 choice for the MLE and Houston will be his first choice as well. I mean between him and James it isn't even close, plus with the trade kicker, even with the MLE going up, Francis would make LESS than James does. Francis is a legit starter, James is not. A PG rotation of Francis and Alston with Lucas as a 3rd string, plus a big guard like Spanoulis than can defend and can be put there is more than enough, versus the problem the Rockets have there now. If the Rockets get Francis (which is probably extremely likely, seeing how this shows he will certainly be bought out after the season) then they have to be considered in the same class as Dallas, SA, PHO, etc.
