Have you experienced knee tendinitis? I have been noticing that my right knee has been acting up lately when my cardio workouts are more intense. I've had this problem off and on for a while when I am keeping up with my cardio work outs. Right now, I have a dull burning sensation in the knee area. When I stand up, the tendon on the right side of the back right knee hurts. I've googled it and I have some symptoms for tendinitis. I know I should go to a doctor and get a professional opinion but I don't want to pay $35 co pay if he says he doesn't see anything wrong with it. I would hate hate to stop my cardio workouts which consists 15 min of speed walking on levels of incline and 15 min of stairmaster 4 times a week. How do you deal with this and continue to do cardio workouts? Help.
Your going to need a specialist for that. Try the elliptical machine as it is light on the knees. I only suggest this cause I run a ton for cardio and lately my knees have been hurting a bit. I take precautions though, take glucosamine daily, warm up on a stationary bike, switch out running shoes every 6 months, & stretch for a good 10 min before doing cardio.
First of, do you have a foot problem (ie flat footed or something like that)? If so, the first you gotta do is get some insoles that can help cushion your impact, and therefore puts less stress on your knee. Second of all, instead of doing cardio four days in a row, try doing two days in a row, then do upper body workouts the next day to give your knees and legs some rest. Then repeat it the next day. And lastly, try stretching for 5-10 minutes prior and after your cardio workouts. Hope that helped.
Enter your name in the NBA draft and you have a good shot at being picked #1 overall by the Bulls. They are apparently big fans of knee tendinitis
all of what jasonemilio says is good.. but sometimes it's unavoidable as you get older, it seems. It's nice when you can find out what exactly it is. I thought I was dealing with a cartilage problem until I realized it was just runner's knee that I had never experienced before
I could be wrong, but what you've described doesn't sound to me like tendonitis. It sounds a lot more like a slight overuse situation. With full blown tendonitis, you'd have blinding pain during the day just getting up after sitting for a while (or even swinging your leg after sitting for a while). I've had it before, it's a true mother, and it never fully heals 100% (just becomes dormant). My guess is you've got slight swelling in the knee and maybe a mild strain. I'd recommend you back off at least the intensity of the cardio for a while, if not take a full week off at least. I'd further recommend incorporating some lower body (light weight) lifting as well as something like biking (or the exercise bike). You need to strengthen the muscles around your knee if you're going to punish them the way you're doing with that 30 minutes of cardio "suicides". In the meantime, use biofreeze, bengay, and some NSAIDs to take care of the aching. Evan
None of you sleaze balls offered to massage it yet I see. I am proud of you guys. Maturing before my eyes.
Tendinitis sucks... I really don't think there's much you can do for it when you have it. When I had it about a year ago all I did was just get a knee brace, ice it, and take some Advil.
I've been battling knee problems from a past life spent in endurance running. I've managed to conquer my problem, I'm sure I could help you with yours. Basic pointers: -Swimming/Cycling is your friend (so is the elliptical) -Impact is not your friend (neither are inclines) -Work on strengthening your glutes/hams as well as balancing your vastus muscles (step downs, bridges, hamstring rotations, inverted/extraverted toe leg extensions, etc) -Fish oil -Rest, Ice, Compression! -A good massage therapist or sports chiropractor can help as well
I'm only 16 and my knees hurt when i run on the treadmill or outside....not when playing bball though.... Not overweight or anything by the way. Do i need to take glucosamine?
as an LMT, i wouldn't recommend it. the bigger maturation should be nobody has asked for her to post a pic of her knee, among other things
You might wanna ask the guy not named Olajuwon in the pic, unfortunately he knows a think or two about knee problems. What could've been.
Lol, thanks for not asking me to post a pic! It's still aching this morning. I think I am putting too much stress on it by doing the stairmasters and speed walking. Unfortunately, I don't have any access to a pool. I will rest it today and switch the cardio workouts to cycling and elliptical. I do have flat feet so that's probably contributing to my problem... DonnyMost, how do I do the hamstrings exercises without injuring my hamstrings? It seems like every time, I do them, I get a slightly pulled muscle even though I stretch them after warmup and before I do the hams exercises. What are inverted/extraverted toe leg extensions? I googled it but no results. I will be looking into y'all suggestions. Thanks for the advice!
A lot of us have experienced your problems and would love to examine your feet, knees and hamstrings...uh in order to give you our expert opinions of course!!! Really though, with those 3 problems; you should seek professional advise(family doctor or a sports medicine specialist-my family doctor recommended a specialist to me). Believe me, you don't want to wake up 1 morning and not be able to walk! As for the co-pay, $35 is a small price to pay to get rid of pain. I spend that every other month on Glucosamine/Chondroitin, but I can walk and run. Just remember that as we travel further down life's road our bodies require more attention.
hi Lady_Di, Don't fret. I have a couple of suggestions for you that might help alleviate things. I play loads of tennis and this is common. So you're not alone! Reducing the Pain 1. Tendinitis is basically a form of inflammation. So when you start experiencing pain, your tendons are literally inflamed. Best cure to inflamation? Cool it down. Use an ice pack PRONTO. Or some icy gel analgesic to cool yourself down. This won't do anything to repair damage but it should relieve your pain some and help your knees recover. Another good product is Tiger Balm. 2. Try Advil. Yes, it actually works. 3. Wear a knee brace - this will help constrict some degree of excess motion, maybe even slow you down some, but it will help keep the inflamation from getting too bad before you even recognize it. Surgery Orthoscopic surgery should be your last course. But from what I've been told. It actually DOES WORK! So that's the good news. But if you can get away without it, that's always preferable. Other Exercises To help rehabilitate the knee short of operating on it, I would recommend: 1. Lay off the knee heavy cardio for the time being. 2. Invest in swim trunks and take your cardio to the pool 3. You'll get a rigorous cario workout while sparing your knee. And that's how I not only managed but also totally eliminated my knee problems. It's by going to the pool. Hope that helps. theSAGE theSAGE
