This kinda sucks because they are closing one thats like 3 mins from my house but there are TWO Walmarts that are 5 mins away from my house. http://money.cnn.com/2003/01/14/news/companies/kmart/index.htm Check out the list, looks like the rest of the KMarts in Houston is closing. http://www.freep.com/news/latestnews/pm12635_20030114.htm
This is what happens when you base your women's clothing campaign around the "Kathy Ireland Collection."
Well, here is the Houston Chronicle article and they are in fact closing all stores in Houston. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/topstory/1735707
According to the AAS, the one K-Mart near my apartment WAS the only one left in Austin. The capitol city will be K-Mart free as well.
They are closing: all the ones in Houston (where are the cops going to do their mass arrests of innocent bystanders now?), all the ones in San Antonio, and the only one in Austin. Are they pulling out of Texas altogether? Probably just a matter of time until none are left. (well, you can say that about anything ) I've been trying to think of a good niche market that Kmart could use to reinvent its image, and I can't think of one.
"There is no such thing as a guilty bystander" . It kind of sucks, I always went to one of their 24 hour stores on Westheimer to buy stuff at night.
I am unable to think of a feasible niche market for them either. They had an attempt in the home improvement market and Home Depot chased them away.
There will be 19 Texas locations left after this round of closings. Don't know where those 19 locations are, though (not in Dallas proper. There's only 1 KMart in Dallas, and it's on the closure list).
They aren't closing the K-Mart in Texarkana, TX. I guess its one of the few thats still profitable, it gets decent business it seems.
