He's 23 years old. He can play 2 positions. He's the most athletic player on the team. He's one of the best finishers on the team. He's an above average rebounder and ball-handler. He can potentially be a good defender.

    Defects:
    - Inconsistent jumper
    - Frequent mental lapses
    - Questionable attitude

I think too many fans are sleeping on him. I don't know if Adelman would prefer him over Luther, but personally I think Snyder is a better player.

    Thoughts?

I remembered I read somewhere where JVG said that he thinks Kirk Snyder will improve alot under adelman.

He comes across very nice in interviews., but he's had discipline problems every year he's been in the league. Hence "questionable attitude."

McGrady, Battier, and Wells are almost locks to take significant minutes at the wing position... As for a fourth player, Luther Head and Kirk Snyder will battle for that spot.

Its not that he's not a great player. He's a good defender, but Battier is a great defender. He's a good finisher around the basket, but Bonzi could be better. He's also a good cutter to the basket, but Luther Head (who has a three-point shot) can to that as well.

If you look at all the defensive stats, he's actually overrated. He was horrible defensively last year by basically all metrics data stats, yet he's constantly given credit for his defense.

The Rockets always find a guy like Snyder. A player with moderate promise but his shortcomings prove to be debilitating. Rhodes, Bogans, Torres, T. Morris, Livingston, E-Mail, etc...

He admitted to a shouting match incident with JVG during a training session where he ended up in the doghouse.

What, no "I knew all along/I told you so back in 2001/If he'da played more in the playoffs we beat Utah" guys chiming in? Good stuff.

Mental lapses and questionable attitude are traits than can drive a coach crazy. Snyder can be a good rotation player if used right. Him and Francis (if healthy enough) on the court together is big time athleticism in the backcourt.

I agree. That's why I think he's only potentially a good defender. He has the right physical tools (e.g. long arms, quickness, strength) to be a strong defender, which he exhibited on occasion last year. But he still needs to learn how to apply those tools consistently.

Agree 100%. There are times when I even forget he is on the team.

"Finishing" is a special skill. Rafer doesn't have it. Battier isn't good at it.
That would give him a spot on my team, with this offense, that rewards cutting. You have to finish.

Tmac at 3 and Bonzi at 2. Battier can back up 3, and Snyder can back up 2.

The mental lapses are a big problem, though. If he can't read and can't cut off the ball, at least as well as Gerald Wallace used to, then he's dead meat.

It's quite unfortunate that Snyder is stuck behind a glut of guard in the Rockets rotation, bt I'm hoping for a Snyder-Head combo. The latter isn't the perfect PG, but he can play it a bit, and I want Snydyer to be able to contribute.

I think the Rockets keep both Snyder and Head-- until the preaseason... then it's Kirk and Luther duking it out for the rotation and roster spot. One will be kept as the 4th wing, the other gets shipped.

Snyder was doing well until he broke his hand. I don't know when the alleged shouting match with JVG occurred, but the hand injury definitely curtailed his progress.

Kirk Snyder is rather underrated and unappreciated. Luther as much as everyone likes him is practically redundant because of MJ, while Snyder provides insurance at the 2/3 spots. he was playing quite well before his injury, and hopefully he's working hard on his game right now.

I'd keep both Head and Snyder, but I think Head is the better player. There are plenty of athletic freaks out there, but Head has a special skill (3-point shooting) that sets him apart.

Agree. He adds more depth and athleticism to our roster. If we are playing against more young and athletic teams , Snyder would help us if we have matchup problems. As long as you have good vertical leap you have the potential to be a good shotblocker. If i'm not mistaken I think he hurt his hand trying to make a defensive play last season.

Before he went down with the wrist injury, he was actually pretty productive coming off the bench. I hope that he can come back this year and do well. It would be great to have a slasher player on the bench to spell McGrady and James.

I like what Snyder brings to this team. Athleticism. McGrady admitted it after the Utah loss that that is part of what we lack. Snyder can finish down low, if he does his cuts or get a better shot, i see him becoming a good player for us in the future.
