Anyone know much about the KIPP school programs? My wife wants me to check into it so here I am. http://www.kipphouston.org/
uh...yeah, that much I figured out. I actually found an article about it in the Washington Post so I have a better understanding of it.
I don't know if there's a way to find it, but I think I saw an excellent piece on KIPP on CBS' "Sunday Morning" a year or two ago.
Both of my sisters went there. I think they are bit strict with how much they require parents to show up for long and boring meetings that they don't really need to have, but all and all, it's a great program. One of my sisters was able to get a scholarship from Oprah's foundation and went to Miss Porter's School in Connecticut for high school. When she was in the school, they only went up through middle school, but now they offer high school for the kids who don't get into good private schools. I've met the guy who started the school, Michael Fienberg, he's nuts and by that I mean he'll do anything to help the kids in the school. He's retired now, but he still helps the kids and young adults who were in the program when he was there whenever they call him and I think many of the teachers follow that example.
