I read some of his twitter's follows comments. Are those guys ****ing serious? Some find him an "inspiration". This can't be real, he probably paid a system to generate him supportive followers.
Royce may be a scumbag, he may be lazy and unmotivated, but give him this- he's intelligent. He knows how to game the system, and he knows how to spin a story. He'd be good working in marketing or PR. He's far from an "activist" though. An activist would at least try to reach middle ground with the team. Play in the D-League, work with a doctor, SOMETHING. Royce probably set back the mental health movement in pro sports for awhile. If you have bipolar, anxiety, anything like that your status is going to tank now no matter how good you are. Look at a guy like Cousins, who was simply labeled to have an attitude problem and not anything diagnosed, fell from #2 to #5. Now imagine you have a player with a diagnosed mental problem and he's open about it. Between all the past, "normal" trouble makers (JR, Artest etc.) and now Royce White, your stock is going down.
It's pretty astonishing how much barrier there is between White and a potential NBA career. 1. Actually work out and be in shape 2. Actually work on his shooting and defense 3. Being able to act like a normal human being in front of teammates 4. Trusting the NBA organization he's employed by 5. Trusting the coach he's employed by 6. Understand and accept that he won't be the star 7. Understand and accept that he might not even play at first 8. Understand that he'll have to fly(especially for a west coast team) And even if he does all of the above, the Kings still have to deal with him missing games, practices, and stuffs in general whenever he suffers a mental "injury" that can happen at any time. In a season where James Johnson and Kendall Marshall both have succeeded, you have to imagine there's someone in the DLeague the Kings could've picked as their development guy, right?
How many days of this 10 day contract does he actually participate in team functions? 1.5, maybe? I'd say this guy should just try to play overseas in some bottom league starved for American talent (like Lebanon or the Philippines or something), but even if he somehow could fly out there, I don't think he could mentally handle a foreign culture. Do the globetrotters fly? He wouldn't have to shoot or play D. He could be "psycho R" and wear jugaloo makeup or something.
I assume that the Kings already have the needed protocol in place, right? Right? Or maybe their management has never been on twitter. #beware
Excellent move for the Kings! They will have their line up set. Thomas Gay Williams White Boogie TEAM #BEWELL
