http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdoms_of_Amalur I downloaded it off of steam. I have never played an action RPG before, so the play style was new to me. Ha, I kept tumbling directly into the hammer of the first boss. My impression isn't worth much, though. Like I said, it's a completely new genre for me. I can only say this much. One, I think the graphics are fantastic. Some might hate the bright colors, but I was digging it. Two, lots of dialogue trees early on. Third, the interface (I played on pc) is not very intuitive at all, especially accessing your equipment. Fourth, I had trouble with aiming. PS, this is the company founded by Curt Schilling, who has never hid his love of board games, rpgs, and video games, especially everquest and other mmo rpgs.
I downloaded the demo the other day but never played it. From looking at the screenshots, it looks more like a cartoonish arcade game or something, but Todd McFarlane and one of the designers (lead?) from Oblivion created it from what I recall reading so it may have that going for it. I also read the world is huge - something like 130 dungeons. Since I already downloaded the demo, I may check it out this weekend.
Nope, full blown action RPG, open world, crafting, all npcs have voice dialogue (but not the hero), heavily influenced by WoW, side quest, skill trees. Downside, a few minor graphic glitches (pc version), a clunky interface, fairly generic storyline (so far).
