Jimmy Kimmel's Super Bowl show won't be live

HOLLYWOOD -- When Jimmy Kimmel brings his raucous, irreverent, sexist, silly and sometimes hilarious late-night television show to Houston on Super Bowl weekend, it won't be Jimmy Kimmel Live; it will be Jimmy Kimmel Taped.

"It won't be live, but we will be doing it from a viewer's house," Kimmel said. "I don't think the show will be as high on energy (as his regular weeknight live show) but, you know, when I was a kid watching Letterman, the shows I really loved, the shows that stuck with me, were the ones he did on an airplane and from his office. And I think that even if you don't have the same energy (there will be no studio audience, for example), just the novelty of it (is a good thing)."

Other details for the show, which will broadcast from the home of one lucky fan on Jan. 30, are still being worked out. All that is known for now is that Kimmel's Uncle Frank and Cousin Sal will be along for the ride.

"We're looking for kind of a normal family, and I'm actually going to stay with them," Kimmel said. "I'm going to sleep at their house. It's one of those things that people hopefully remember as a little bit different from the typical Friday show. There won't be a studio audience; it will be just the family. It will be fairly low-key but hopefully funny."

The fact that the show will be taped could be a good thing. Some of the best moments of Kimmel's show are taped segments, many of which involve Uncle Frank and Cousin Sal.

"I did hear a lot of talk about maybe moving it to tape," he said. "Maybe it would be easier to get guests, or maybe it would be easier on the staff. But I really like that the show is live, not just because of the energy that we get, but (because) it's an advantage over the other shows, and we certainly don't have many (advantages). It's been a great advantage to be able to play (clips from) that horrible Paris Hilton show (Fox's The Simple Life)."

If you're crazy and a fan of Kimmel's show -- the two go hand in hand -- you can still sign up at ABC.com to be the home site for the show.

Just remember: Your couch will be Kimmel's couch. Be prepared to invest in new furniture afterward.
