Quote from Sura on KILT this afternoon. He said he wants to get back earlier, but it will probably be early December to make sure it heals correctly and he can finish his career with no more problems.

So, the preseason plus 4 weeks of the regular season.

I hope he comes back 100%, on schedule -- and can't get into the rotation because he is not needed!!!

this is the price we pay for getting guys way past their prime.

A championship making team composing of young core and middle age secondary is the requisite.

A team built upon a young core and over the prime secondary just means another wasted year.

Who knows maybe the other players step up and show that they are capable of carrying and helping the team and allowing others to shine and make a name for themselves. I think we have the right amount of backups that are going to help us play well and i know it's a decent sized loss but we have to look on the bright side and see the other players that will get a chance to play which are young and eventually going to get to their prime.

What are you talking about? Who is way past their prime? Sura? Look at his numbers last year.

He played great at the end of the year after he was traded. But he has had problems with injuries in the past. I don't think he can handle playing that many minutes anymore. He hasn't been healthy in a long time but when he is, he's a great player and goign to be a great addition to this team when he does play.

THATS NOT BAD.....HE SHOULD HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO GET INTO THE GROVE WITH THE TEAM AND THE SYSTEM.....BEFORE THE PLAYOFFSS

So Chandler is past his prime? Tmac had a back injury last year, is he past his prime? Yao got his toe stepped on, is he past his prime??

Sura is freakin 31. He got injured. BOO freakin HOO. Jackson is 34 and he was our most consistent player last year.

Mutombo is way past his prime.

MJ is way past his prime.

Dennis is way past his prime.

Juwan Howard, Jim Jackson, Ward, Lue, Taylor, Nachbar and the rest of the secondary are NOT way past their prime.

Sura is NOT way past his prime.

This is the price we pay for letting people post without the pre-requisit of having a freakin brain.

Sura played in 80 games last year and put up 14.7 ppg, 5.3 apg, and grabbed 2 rpg with Atlanta before moving on to Detroit as an off-the-bench role-player who put up 7.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg and 3 apg in only 21 minutes of action per game. He's expected to come off the bench, so why would he HAVE to handle those minutes anymore? He hasn't been healthy in a long time yet played in 80 games last year!?

Actually the numbers I mentioned for him coming off the bench was his final numbers after Detroit cut his minutes. 80 games. He put up those numbers with Atlanta LAST year and he's 31 years old. How is that someone way past their prime!?

Im not doubting his ablity and how well he played last year. there also have been 3 yeras where he only played about 50 games becuase of injury.

I know he is going to be coming off the bench and not getting that many minutes, but he has had injuries in the past that are going to effect him because he is getting older.

I also think that Sura was going to get a bulk of the minutes compared to Charlie Ward. Ward might have started but the fact that Sura would be switiching around playing the point and that 2 that he would have to play a bit more minutes then Charlie would overall.

You have just articulated my greatest fear about this team and their less than stellar FA moves during the offseason. Let's just hope that somehow, someway this team proves to be the exception to the rule.

I have a bad feeling about this injury due to its striking similarities to Piatkowski's injury last year. Pike was supposed to be a major contributor for this team. He injured himself, missed beginning of the season, and never got back on track. Let's hope that the same thing won't happen to Sura.

My mistake I'm looking at another post. You said that he had recent injury problems last year, but he played in 80 games.

Actually in my post i said " he has had injury problems in the past "

never was referring to last year. most of his injuries were back when he was with Golden State

Something else to add, since people are going to lump this latest injury with his "rash" of injury problems, there are a number of players who aren't injury prone who have suffered offseason injuries, like Mo for one. Sura played in 78 games 2 years ago, played in 53 the year after that, but played in 80 games last year. That's actually only about 10 games less then Kobe Bryant.

Sura has already had seasons of 46, 53, and 55 games, most of those injuries have been back injuries, so if someone wants to say he has injury problems, well he does.

Those were the years with Golden State that i was referring to. The only thing that bothers me about this injury is that it's his back and it has been there before. Your back is one thing that is not that easy to fix and you will always have problems with it.

Kind of scares me with TMac a bit but i will chalk that up to the fact that he had to do a lot more work in Orlando with no one there to help him. This year it's going to be a bit different with the fact that he is no longer expected to carry the complete team on his shoulders.
