Just heard a report on KILT 610 in Houston quoting a Rockets' official saying that the deal with the Chinese Basketball Association is 99.9 percent done and that the contract negotiations with Yao's agent are going well. It appears Yao will be in camp as scheduled with no delays.

    Stay tuned...

As the old saying goes, it's the last .1% that's the hardest. Or something like that...

What's left to agree on with Yao and his agents? Isn't the rookie contract all boilerplate these days anyways? Sorry if I missed the discussion on this in another thread.

    Jeff...

It's not that I don't trust what you heard, nor is it that I don't think a deal will get done. It's just that this has seemingly dragged out so long, with so many statements from both sides that seemed to suggest it was almost a done deal, that I'm kind of at the point where I'll believe it's finally done when it's finally done, and until then it all kinda sounds the same.

The report I heard on Fox about Yao's agents was that the money had already been agreed upon. The only haggles were over "other" elements of the contracts. My best guess would be things like no-trade clauses, the type and direction of promotions as well as who is responsible for various other parts of Yao's existence with the Rockets - interpreters, transportation, etc.

I honestly have no idea what they are, but most of the arguments over contracts in the NBA once the financials are done have to do with trades, direction of the team, direction of marketing, how often a player gets paid (monthly, weekly, all at once, etc) and who pays for what (i.e. transportation, appearances, etc).

I can only assume the same types of things are true with Yao.

I didn't report it. If you don't want to trust KILT's reporters, I understand. But, they were the one's who reported "99.9 percent done" not me.

I think that there is too much riding on this deal for it not to be done in time. Yao is probably not gonna be too pretty in our prison-pajamas, but I can't wait to see him wearing them.

Wasn't Michael Jordan "99.9%" certain that he had retired for good back in 1998? :)

I'm sure all that Yanjing beer helped negotiations.

Great news! This has been a great week so far, no matter how negative some folks are. If KILT reported it, then I believe it until I hear different.

Well, good news, looks like it's almost over.

For all the criticism their radio personalties take, KILT is a pretty solid source for info. They don't invent things, and are just reporting what their sources have told them.

No, I was being literal...I's NOT that I don't trust what you reported ( Or the report you heard, if you prefer.) My reaction is primarly an emotional one.

    Hi dude,

San Miguel is orginially one of the most famous beers in Spain.
This just to complete your universal beer knowledge.

    Other good asian beers:

Tiger Beer - Thailand (great style bottle)
Tsing Tao - Very good Chinese beer

    cheers,
    palmray

Yes, but beer is not very popular in Spain. Of the top of my head, La Estrella is the most common one, and it ranks with bad beers of the world.
Spanish beer is pretty poor, but the wine is wholly underrated, and the Tapas with a variety of Paxtaran or Sangria is pretty fun, too.
Just to complete your Universal Spain Knowledge. ;)

Tsing Tao is drinkable, but hardly a very good beer.

xlr817, you forgot the [/b][/quote] at the end of your quote.
