Drew to Chicago for a conditional 1st rounder or 2 future 2nd rounders. It was only a matter of time before Drew was traded I guess.

How does a player for picks work cap-wise?

    ------------------
Don't anybody ever suggest again that we sign Tracy Murray to a deal.

Drew gets a new cap; the picks don't, yet.

seriously though...picks count nothing towards team salary.

HP, your a funny guy, very thought about giving up flash and starting a stand out comedy career.

Is it the inherent worth of the picks, even though they won't count this year?

It is official. Here's the writeup from nba.com.
    http://www.nba.com/rockets/drew_000928.html

HOUSTON, Sept. 28 — The Houston Rockets have acquired a conditional future first-round draft pick or two future second-round draft picks from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for guard Bryce Drew, Executive Vice President of Basketball Carroll Dawson announced today.

After two NBA seasons, Drew holds averages of 5.1 points and 2.0 assists in 106 career games with the Rockets. The 6-3, 185-pound point guard set career highs with averages of 5.8 points and 2.3 assists in 72 games last season. In five starts he averaged 17.2 points and 6.6 assists. Overall, Drew scored in double figures 20 times and had two double-doubles in his second season in Houston. As a rookie, he averaged 3.5 points and 1.5 assists in 34 games during the 1998-99 NBA season.

Drew came to the Rockets as the 16th overall selection in the 1998 NBA Draft following a standout career at Valparaiso University. Coached by his father, Drew averaged 17.7 points over four seasons at Valparaiso, earning Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Year honors in his final two seasons. Finishing as Valparaiso's all-time leading scorer, Drew lifted his school to its first-ever NCAA Tournament win as a senior with a game-winning, buzzer-beating 3-pointer against Mississippi.

    Smeg,

The salaries don't balance. You have Drew's salary moving one way and $0 moving the other. You can always go up in salary if you have the caproom to spend. da Bulls are doing wonders with their cap room, aren't they?

Dreamcasters and those who want money next year will be pleased to know that Drew's salary is basically "erased". We get out of this deal a nice 1.18 million dollar trade exception.

Smegger-If you can't understand what heypee is saying, he's saying that Chicago is under the cap by a lot, and no "balance" is necessary.

NIKE, I disagree...dreamcasters will not be pleased. Our speculation production is definitely going down.

    How exactly does:
    "Walt + the Drew Exception"
    match-up against
"Walt + Drew + the Exception" that we had this year.

That is not a good match-up. But I will admit...some probably prefer "Walt + the Drew Exception" over "Walt + Drew".

smeggy, if heypee didnt answer your question satisfactory, the Bulls are under the cap so they can eat Drew's salary. The picks count as nothing, so the Rockets are actually gaining a little bit of money in the cap room.

and heyparty never told me if I won, the b*stard.

No i understood that the Bulls could just eat salary (or celery i suppose) but why don't we have to take anything back, is that for the same reason.

    HP,

I take it you're posting from the bathroom again with that toilet humour.

Smeg, it is for the same reason. Since they can eat his salary like T-Ham eats a burger, they don't have to play the salary matching game. And since he makes a relative pittance anyway, I don't think the Bulls mind that much.

What the hell is the deal with this pick or picks crap? Still, more than I expected.

It's probably a sort of reverse incentive that works like this:

If Drew is still on the Bulls' roster by [insert date] or plays XX minutes, then the Rockets get a first-round pick.

If he isn't or doesn't (i.e., he is cut or permanently attached to the bench), then the Rockets get the second-rounders.

Does this add any value to our trade exemption?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.
