in morey's theory, the three most efficient way to score is:
    1. free throw
    2. layup
    3. 3 pts

free throw is typically high percent shot and number of fouls could lower aggressiveness of defense.
I remember when we acquired KMART, he was supposed to pair with YAO to get to the free throw line and put the opponent over 4 fouls in a hurry.

Now we have harden and howard, top two guys in term of free throw attempts.
    harden 10.2, howard 9.5.
in the last 5 seasons (except 12-13), howard always average more than 10 attempts a game.

Do a bit simple math, 20 attempts from those two guys = 10 fouls. If some of the attempt are from AND ONE, then that means they generate more than 10 fouls.

That is freaking scary to me. we are talking about 2 guys generating 10+ fouls in 36 mins. I would expect rockets go to the line the most next season.

Is morey a scientist trying to prove a theory?

Like the Dream said, basketball is a science. The more fouls we get the other team to rack up, the less effective they will be on defense. It is not so much a theory as a proven science. FT's are typically gimmes since they cannot be defended.

14-15FTM per game minimum. It's like starting the game +15pts.

Unless your name is Dwight Howard or Shaquille O'Neal.

The great thing about this is that all our guards attack and finish at the rim. The more people attempt to Hack-a-Howard the more opportunities it gives our guards to attack the defense and draw even more trips to the foul line.

This is what Morey has been looking for, for a while.

They want 1 point per possession. That's a clip that not many teams can match and if they're getting that 1 point on the free throw line, gravy. All over the place.

I liken it to chess, in chess you have tempo. You can lose or gain tempo depending on your strategery and execution. Although you've had the exact same turns, you can seemingly expand your attacks faster or conversely, be overwhelmed and underdeveloped.

Free throws are like tempos, a possession basically. If you want 1 point per, every free throw made is an additional successful possession. Same with shooting 3 pointers, a make is worth that 3rd possession. 2 pointers can be seen as making up for the 1 missed earlier.
