As you may have heard or read in the NBA Dish thread, Jason Kidd was arrested for domestic violence (bloodied wifes lip) tonight.

I'm sure it's the least of his worries but I wonder if this will be the break Franchise needs to get into the all-star game? If charges are pressed and he is convicted I'm sure some sort of suspension will be in order.

It's too bad...I liked Kidd and IF this is true he is a no good punk.

That would be nice. I think Kidd is overrated anyway.

Nothing against Kidd, I like the guy, but if something is done,I hope Francis does get to play in All Star game.

If this is actually true, what a dumbass! His wife is HOT!!! I think her name is Jumanji or something like that...but that's neither here nor there (or anywhere, for that matter)

What's up with Suns' players and domestic disputes? First Penny and his gat, now this... I hope it's not true, unless Jumanji has any plans for me in her future...

I doubt Kidd will miss the All-Star game.

This is dumb. Francis should make the All-Star team because he deserves it based on the merit of his game.

I do not want him to get selected "by default."

Why not wish for all sorts of bad things to happen so that Mobes can get on, too.

If Francis does not get it this year - i guarantee he will get it next - then he will have waited a whole 2 years to get on (and stay on for some time).

I agree rimbaud! I don't wish injury or misfortune on anyone, especially to get an All-Star berth. Kidd won't miss the All-Star game. He may miss a game or two at the most. I have seen to many situations, and been close to sick situations like this to know that 1.)The wife/girlfriend will drop charges or, 2.) Charges will be delayed as long as possible. If Jason Kidd really did this, I have lost a TON of respect for him as a man, and that is more important then respect as a basketball player.

Suns G Kidd arrested on domestic violence charge
    January 19, 2001

PARADISE VALLEY, Arizona (Ticker) -- Phoenix Suns All-Star guard Jason Kidd, considered one of the NBA's solid citizens, was arrested Thursday night on a domestic violence charge brought by his wife.

According to Lt. Ron Warner, the public information officer for the Paradise Valley Police Department, Kidd and his wife, Joumana, had been arguing all day before the situation became physical.

Joumana Kidd called 911 and police arrived at the couple's home, noting a swelling on her lip and a cut inside her mouth, Warner said. She told police her husband struck her during a dispute about feeding their 2-year-old son.

Jason Kidd admitted hitting his wife and police arrested him without incident. He was taken to the Paradise Valley police station, where he was fingerprinted, photographed and put in a cell, a police report said.

Kidd appeared with his lawyers before Paradise Valley Magistrate Tabor and was released on his own recognizance, Warner said. Kidd was charged with domestic violence assault, a Class 3 Misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail.

The release order signed by Judge Tabor barred Kidd from having any contact with his wife until so ordered by the court. Any meeting between the two must be under the observation of a third party.

Kidd's attorney's are to contact the court Friday.

If my memory serves correct, wasn't Jason Kidd accused of rape or something along those lines while he was in college. Maybe my memory is messed up, but I really remember something like this. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Kidd is NOT overrated. He is the third best point guard in the league. But, I can't say I am against Francis getting into the All-Star game because of these events. Francis deserves to be there no matter what Kidd does in his private life. I think the way Francis handles himself and the other players during a game is phenomenal for a second year player. Unfortunately, only Rockets fans get to see this. Basketball fans vote for the All-Star game. Although Francis has been on the cover of quite a few magazines lately, no one gets to see him play. That regional TNT spot the other night is the only chance the rest of the country has gotten to see him this year. So, if it takes a Kidd F**K up to get Francis into the All-Star game ---too bad, he deserves to be there anyway.

Absolutely not. He was, however, guilty of fleeing the scene of a traffic accident (there were no injuries) around the time of the NBA draft.

I went to Cal and followed his college career pretty closely and there were never any major allegations of that nature. Just want to quash that rumor before it gets out of hand.

This latest news, however, is very disappointing.

Gosh, I am shocked that Kidd is entangled in this crap... From what I knew of him, he seemed like a great guy... My roommate here at Arizona State lives in Paradise Valley near Penny and Kidd, I guess he should move to a safer neighborhood...

I thought Kidd was one of the NBA's rare good guys...

Only knock on Kidd coming out of college
was that he had kids while in college [I think 2]
The judge waited on him to sign his contract
    to assess the child support.

I DO NOT KNOW THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THIS INCIDENT
    I WAS NOT THERE

    SO I'll reserve judgement.

It might seem "dumb" to some of you but it is still a factor. Francis may make it regardless of Kidds future and that would be great.

Would it be "dumb" if Payton and Kidd were both injured and Francis made it in that way?

Just thought I'd point out that Kidd's one of the 2 leading vote-getters for the All-Star team at the guard spot. Meaning he's going to start. I don't know that suspensions carry over that far, and at any rate there's no way Kidd is convicted of anything before the game in February, unless he cops a plea. The justice system doesn't move that fast.

If Camby gets 5 games for attempting to punch Ferry, Kidd should get a minimum of 20 games for punching his wife. It is uncalled for and gutless. The NBA needs to take a stand against domestic violence. Baseball has refused to suspend 2 pitchers (Chouniard and another) for spousal abuse (Chounaird actually admitted to it) and it's time for a league to make a statement. If a player smokes pot, he is treated severely, let's see what happens if he smacks his wife.
