Kick it out after offensive rebound

Depends on the player. Different equation for a Kevin Love and a P.J. Tucker on whether you try a tough putback.

I haven't noticed any particular problem with this for the team as a whole. Although Anderson in particular is a bit of a serial tough layup bricker on offensive boards.

 

I think statistically the contested put back is still the higher percentage shot.

I kind of feel the same way as you but I think it has more todo with the nene miss at the end of the Spurs game. It's still fresh in our minds.

I wanted that win bad but the more I think about it. It showed we can compete and win against the Spurs. Leonard had his best game maybe ever and forsure his best quarter. Tony Parker hit 3 threes.

We contained LMA and did well in defense and rebounding.

The rockets are good and that loss will serve us well moving foward imo.

 

It was a fluke. I'd love to see the Spurs in the playoffs.

 

I've seen Nene do exactly what you describe, except with OPEN layups/dunks.

Ryno I've never seen get an offensive rebound before. I don't think he has any or will ever get any and if he did he cant physically kick it back out to himself. And if he could, he'd be standing 4 feet BEHIND the 3pt line and I don't think he can pass a ball that far.

Trez doesn't play anymore.

Capella - He definitely thinks putback first, but he's high % near the rim so I'm good with it.

Beverley - Too short to get an unmolested kickout from the paint, he can stick to dribbling it out.

Ariza - Definitely needs to pass it out. He should never shoot a 2 again.

 

Ryno gets plenty of offensive rebounds and is actually better on that end than on defense since his boxing out is not the best.

 

I don't think kicking it out for a three is better than the putback.. I've seen plenty games where we get the offensive rebound, kick it out, and we shoot right away. Don't matter if it goes in or not. I would like to see us play patient after the rebound. Shooting too many of those can let a team get back into the game

 

I definitely believe this is what NeNe should have done the other night when he tried to put it back up against Aldridge. You give 2 pump fakes and if he doesn't bite, you kick to the open man. Oh well, 20/20 hindsight.

Easy to say this now as a bystander, but instinctually with the game on the line you're going to put it back up. Trevor Ariza did the same thing against the Pacers. The correct move is just to pass it out if possible, but when you're in the moment you're typically going to put it back up.

 

Probably. Anderson and Ariza are guilty of this quite often, they have a stubbornness about them. But it's probably their stubbornness that has contributed to their positive qualities as well.

We just need better rebounders honestly. Capela is our best rebounder and he's just above average. The other problem is, the more 3's you take, the longer the rebounds, the more everyone's rebounding matters. It's incredible that we have Harden and Bev. Upgrading our rebounding at one of the forward spots would be excellent for us. But that's summertime talk.

 

IMO if the player who grabbed the offensive rebound is anywhere within the restricted area + the full width of the paint(not 100% sure but I think the restricted area width is smaller than the width of the paint), you try to put that back all the time.

Any offensive rebound beyond that, unless you're a great finisher at the rim then passing it out IMO would be the better option.

 

Nene was fouled, but yeah, he could have kicked it out too.
