I was disgusted with the towel being thrown in against Golden State, especially given the Jazz' most recent two losses. Now benching T-Mac and Yao and playing Skip an insane 42 minutes against Portland... well, we might as well make the final 6 games worth something.

Getting Vassilis Spanoulis and Steve Novak some experience and getting Bonzi Wells back in the lineup ... those seemed like good milestones to hit for the final 6-7 seemingly now meaningless games. Not anymore. My new regular season goal? Pick #23 in this summer's NBA Draft. Right now they're at #25... two spots could be important in what is a deep draft. I mean just imagine if 22 teams all forget that Greg Oden is draft-eligible and he's scooped up at 23 ... oh, the gut-wrenching horror knowing Juwan Howard hit the winning jumper against the Kings to knock us down a spot.

Rocket playbooks should be replaced with pamphlets containing only these 5 lines:

    23. Cleveland Cavaliers, 46-31
    24. Chicago Bulls, 46-31
    25. Houston Rockets, 47-29
    26. Utah Jazz, 48-27
    27. Detroit Pistons, 48-27

But the Rockets would lose homecourt advantage and have to win on the road if they faced the Cavs or Bulls in the Finals, you say. You're right... but forgive me for not quaking in my boots about such a task if the Rockets were somehow able to do the same in Utah, Dallas and Phoenix/San Antonio to even get there.

You mailed it in too early Rockets, so time to make it worth our while before the playoffs start. Cool the jets, cut the gas line and on my signal, Rafer -- unleash your patented brand of hell. As coach Norman Dale would say, "I've seen you guys can't shoot but there's more to the game than shooting. There's lack of fundamentals and poor defense."

    First!

I'm sure we can trade up for higher picks. We've got more assets this year than last year.

PS. I'm still amazed at CD's job last year.

you know what i dont get about rafer?
he was Sam's backup when they were both with the Bucks. You figure he'd learn some fundamentals.

or everytime he goes up against Steve Nash, he'd learn something. You know when Dream use to play against Moses and he'd learn something. Then Dream got better.

another thing. He played with Ray Allen and Cassell with the Bucks. Ray has a silky smooth shot. Did he learn anything??

Last year's foolishness cost us Brandon Roy.

This year's will cost us [Insert Name].

If you are superstitious type you would want the #24 pick.

24 has gotten the Rockets Sam Cassell and Luther Head in the past.

    Does seem rather fishy.

Is JVG trying to prove his point about tanking for better draft position? You know how stubborn he is :) He wanted the NBA to allow every team into the lottery to avoid teams tanking, but people mostly laughed at him.

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/4659096.html

Makes sense to rest our MVPs, avoid injuries and get our scrubs some playing time. Presumably, Yao and Tmac know the system well enough to be able to just turn up come the playoffs. I'd feel more comfortable if they played one of the last couple of games though.

I want Acie Law... But i guess if we wanted to trade up for a lotto pick, we need to give up at least Kirk and maybe even Luther...
How does our 1st rounder + 2nd rounder + Kirk for a lotto pick (11th, before the Suns who are in desperate need of a good PG to back up Nash?) sound>_<

agree that we need #24, not #23. Let's get Law at 24 and win the championship the next year with him backing up but playing major minutes ;)

The annual "Let's tank so we can improve our draft position" by Clutch. And JVG not cooperating by playing his starters and not his bench. :)

The sarcasm is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

We still have a shot at homecourt. Go for it.

    Love it !

    You go boy !

You have to wonder where the decision to rest them comes from? It doesn't seem like it is a move that JVG would do, he seems to want to win them all, so did this decision come from the front office?

    Someone is taking a longer view....FINALLY !

I don't think we are going for home court. Clutch is right, we might as well improve our draft position while we are at it :D

Awesome. Is his "patented brand of hell" called shooting the basketball? My favorite moment in last night's game was the "Endurance Player Award" that went to Rafer. Bill read his line up until then - 38 minutes, 6 points, & 6 assists - then he and Clyde were very silent. Personally, I think the broadcast should have cheated and claimed Luther played the most because he actually played basketball last night.

I believe that Tmac got benched for poor play, after that the team decided to go ahead and rest him and figured they should also rest Yao too.

Same theory - just have to explain the timeline I guess.

Which is smart.....and if you read my post I was WONDERING who made the call as it does not seem like something JVG would do....but it might be....either way, I think it was a smart move....

Clutch, whomever doesn't give this thread 5 stars should be banned.

    :D

I don't know why, but I just have this feeling that Acie Law IV will fall into our laps this upcoming draft...only for the Rockets to turn around and package him along with Chuck Hayes to LA for Smush Parker.
