did anyone see this? if so, can you elaborate on it. i couldn't find it on their website. maybe i just didn't look hard enough i wanted to know what the story was but i had to step away and when i got back it was already more than halfway over. i couldn't make out the sign. here's what i think is the story: parents are making their 14 year old boy stand on a street corner with a big ass orange sign saying something like "14 year old wants to make money for a living standing on the corner". that's not exact though. i just caught it when he was trying to quit and the parents kept pressuring him to put the sign back on. the camera's last shot was of the boy standing with his head down and the sign around his neck.
I saw some of it, but missed the begining. I think the sign has something like...'I want to drop out of school and this is where its going to get me'
Weak! Copycat... Mother makes wayward daughter stand on street corner with a sign Published: Sunday, November 20, 2005 Article tools EDMOND, Okla. (AP) - Tasha Henderson got tired of her 14-year-old daughter's poor grades, chronic lateness to class and talking back to her teachers, so she decided to teach the girl a lesson. She made Coretha stand at a busy Oklahoma City intersection Nov. 4 with a cardboard sign that read: "I don't do my homework and I act up in school, so my parents are preparing me for my future. Will work for food." http://www.canada.com/news/oddities/story.html?id=1279acce-e99f-4bb2-97b4-2d5047748b2e
MCMark, I thought of that too, but if it works and the boy gets the message .....good job by the parents. DD
That's pretty stupid...they should have prepared her for her future as a two dollar crack w****, not a street corner beggar...
I heard the girl quit going to school because she was making 50 bucks a day panhandling. Then she got arrested for panhandling.
Hell, I wish the corners had teenagers holding stupid signs everyday... at least then we could see the parents actually gave a damn what their teens were doing.
I don't see anything worng with it. If parents think that is psychological abuse, then they should see what some of their sweethearts are doing to kids during school...tormenting, bullying, peer pressuring...Also, there are so many bad parents in the world and this just seems like someone trying to get thier daughter's attention in a nonviolent way, and yet other people are cirticsizing her...unless they have a cure-all solution to fixing their kids behavior problems then I think they should mind their own business and STFU..
I just laugh at people who try and say that a little embarrassment is abuse... like the ones who raise hell when an Arizona prison warden makes his inmates wear pink underwear and pink uniforms. These are the same people that immediately medicate kids who are a little high strung rather then learn to deal with them and help the kids deal with it. My Dad does this with my much younger siblings. When I go to my Dad's house and see my two brothers and sister (14, 15 and 17) they all play sports and are always hurt... and are going to the chiropractor's office, or wearing braces or taking pain killers or allergy medicines... I'm always busting their balls and telling them "suck it up you candy asses!" Hell, when I was a kid I hated all that crap and wanted nothing to do with it... now we have parents that baby the hell out of their kids. sorry, /end tangent
I understand breaks and major injuries but a lot of parents go way overboard and it seems to be a lot more common now then when I was growing up (I'm 26). I think the over-medicating and pampering of kids has gotten out of hand the last couple of years. I know parents who rush their kids to the emergency room everytime they fall, or hit their head or say their "pee-pee hurts"... America's kids are a bunch of pansies. What happened to the days of "suck it up and get back out there!"?
my pee pee hurts. waaaaaaaaah. that **** is so old, yet funny still. i think our kids are over medicated. Actually, I'm 22, and I have no kids, so what the hell am I talking about?
You were a kid once right? So you do have a say in how kids have/are treated... I'm sure you know kids too, so that lets you have a say as well. All I know is most of the kids in my family (nephews, brothers, cousins) are freaking pansies because they are babied and treated as if they are... kids. I think this may be a problem in general with the middle-class or rich kids. I grew up pretty poor so I had to "suck it up" and my friends were never like "nah, I can't play street football I have to go to the Chiropractor" or "no I can't play a pickup game, I just took my sinus medicine"... it simply drives me nuts. Luckily I have one nephew that I'm pretty close with that is tough as nails to keep me sane, because my candy-ass younger siblings drive me crazy.
Better for me to whip my kids than have the cops beating him down Better for my to psychologically abuse them than they to end up in prison too many punk *ss parents in the world I hate the DRUGGING your kids cause they HYPER mentality If time out works for your kid. . . fine. . but too many Dr Spock books has our kids turning into lil hoodlums Rocket River
Hmmm...who has more issues, the kids who are "pansies" or the guy who is driven nuts just by watching them?
