Creating martyrs is one more reason we should eliminate the death penalty. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080605/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/guantanamo_sept11_trial
Don't really care if we martyr him, I'm willing to do the honors myself. I don't get this silly argument that just because a criminal wants to 'go out' in certain manner that we shouldn't grant him his wishes. It's quite alright with me.
Forget martyring him, let him be the newest virgin at one of our roughest jails. He'll be wearing high heels and lipstick in no time!
Concur. In fact, after executing him, I would favor cutting off his genitals, tongue and hands -- and burying the parts separately from the torso -- so that all the world would know he is not enjoying his seven fat, foul-breathed virgins.
Some of you guys are cruel and disgusting. What differentiates us from the terrorists if we are willing to stoop down to their level.
The fact that we don't do it without a trial and only to those directly responsible instead of a hoarde of innocents who were going to work on a Tuesday. Maybe that's just me...
I think the message I've gotten from the McCain supporters is that we don't do what terrorists want. Afterall they point out Hamas believing that Obama would be a better President as reason to doubt Obama. I'd like to see basso, and TJ stay consistent and come out against the death penalty in this case.
So we should pay for his existence the rest of his life I suppose? BS. This guy, if convicted, was a pivotal player in the 9/11 attack. Not only should he die, but his death should be very....ummm...let's just say interesting.
See, now that would be over the top. While you want the SOB dead, you want him to be able to have a proper burial in his faith. Even in the Wild West, you had that notion prevailing.
If we don't give him a fair trial by jury then we are no different than a panel of Saudi judges who give 40 lashes to a woman who is raped. Our whole system of justice and the foundation of what this country is - is based on civil liberties. That's why the Patriot's Act is so disturbing. Personally, I care not one bit for the man, but I'm against the death penalty - because there's no reason to do it. It's not cheaper for tax payers, it's more expensive. The cheapest thing to do is put him in solitary confinement and let him live out his days in isolation never speaking to another sole again. Let him contemplate the Koran for 30 some odd years. What is the point of killing someone once they are in prison. If they wanted to kill him, they should have done it before he was captured.
I'd rather let him rot in jail, possibly brainwash the ****er to make him recant in the form of a pathetic shell. Destroying his passion and notoriety would be worth more to me than a swift and cruel free death.
You're beginning to sound like you want to imitate certain nations of the past. Oh and don't be silly, there is no "fair trial" for these people. It's a fair trial in your system, but if you could take a second to realize that your system doesn't apply to everyone in the world, and especially not to this guy, then you will realize not only that we can't determine if it's fair, but in almost all cases it would be inconclusive. It's very simple. Kill him. BTW, he would want to be tortured. He gains "points" for that, just like he gains a whole heap of "points" for being a martyr. So no matter what you do, you're playing into his hands. Just be consistent and do what's necessary.
If you will notice, my suggestion is not to torture him. But removing parts of his body after death means he can't have them in his afterlife (in his belief system). That would send a message to the rest of the murdering thugs who share his belief system. That is the purpose -- giving pause to terrorists who would murder innocent people.
What you mean he won't have a fair trail? All the evidence points to that he did it. So he would be guilty.
