Now there's a rumor about Channing Frye and Penny's contract to Minny for KG. This does NOT affect the Francis trade, so the Knicks could end up with KG, Marbury AND Francis. Wow. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/39251/20060221/garnett_to_the_big_apple/
I highly doubt this one. If all they can get for KG is a unproven rookie and a expiring contract, then Mchale must have given up being GM.
Minnesota might as well fold their franchise if they do this trade. I seriously doubt this rumor.. they could get so much more.
i am pretty sure if KG was on the market, a team like say Golden State would put a package together that's better than Frye and Penny's Contract...like Baron Davis, Troy Murphy, and Pietrus or something.
It's Chicago's pick in 2006, and the Bulls get the better of the two picks in 2007. Sounds like New York is using the websites to drive up Frye's value.
Oh forget it, Minny are no threat at all, KG has given up. I still say the Lakers -- absent of a major trade that helps them out -- will miss the playoffs and the Kings/Jazz will vie for that last seed. The Rockets are already too far out and need to go 20-9 or better just to have a chance in hell of getting a playoff spot, and even then they likely can't make it. It will be the Kings/Jazz who take that last spot...
yea, but keeps Garnett in the west. Makes sense for Minn since they basically gave up Wally and Kandiman for just Ricky Davis (which I believe signed a restricted contract with Minn before Cleveland matched). Minn is going nowhere and Minn would rather give up KG to the east rather than the west. Could they get anything more from any other east time? Probably not, only from lets say Miami or Detroit that would make more sense, but neither team is going to trade any of their core players. Maybe for Paul Pierce? naw, they wouldve done it already with the wally/davis trade. AI? nope, nothing else makes sense.
alot of it supposedly has to do with KG prefering to go to NY if he gets dealt and the Wolves respecting him. if they made this deal, and they send Mo Taylor and Crawford for Francis they will have a starting 5 of. Curry Garnett Rose Francis Marbury thats not a bad 5 some there. tons of holes and what not, but alot of players who can get it done, and Garnett is the type to demand alot from his team mates.
Seems somewhat credible to me, but who knows. You make the deal and Minnesota's cap is at $38 mil or so next year. Make another deal for expiring contracts and draft picks and you've basically blown it all up; but Minnesota's season would dive into the toilet and their own draft pick would be pretty darned high. The Timberwolves aren't going anywhere as is. They SHOULD at least get another of those good young players from the Knicks, but even then, Kevin McHale would need to go into witness protection for giving up Kandi's expiring contract for Blount. And then KG for nothing? Time to retire. But blowing up that team? It might be time.
or could you imagine the Cavaliers trading Damon Jones, Donyell Marshall, Drew Gooden + extra for KG? LBJ and KG together? Siiiick. i just think, like many, that the Wolves could make out with something better than Frye + pick
I like the idea of Minnesota blowing their team up. They've been mediocore to above average with the exception of the year they went to the Western Conference finals. It's already Garnett's 10th season with the Wolves and I'd say it's time for a change for both KG and Wolves. Step 1) Trade KG Step 2) Tank and enter Morrison sweepstakes Step 3,4) Wait and sign new max player.
I see this as blatantly false, as Minny can definitely get more for KG than Frye and cap relief. Unlike SF3, teams would be lining up at the door and foaming at the mouth for a chance to acquire KG. If that NY-Minny trade went down as-is, McHale would be mobbed in the street and torn apart by angry T-Pups fans. And frankly, I wouldn't blame them.
Maybe KG told them he wouldn't stay? So it's better to get something instead of nothing? Just a guess.
