Credit The Pioneer Press's Charley Walters "Look for the Timberwolves and Kevin Garnett to begin discussing a new four-year contract this summer. Garnett, 26, has two years left on his $126 million, six-year contract. He will be paid $25.2 million next season and $28 million the following season. NBA rules allow the Wolves and Garnett to negotiate a new deal as early as this summer. People who know say the Wolves want to re-sign Garnett, and Garnett wants to remain in Minnesota rather than go elsewhere as a free agent. Look for his new deal to be worth about $75 million over four years." Well this is the first time I have seen an article in regards to KG. Since the KG talk began here on the boards I have been searching for something worth a read and I finally found this. I think this story will allow us to move on and distance ourselves from the Garnett to Houston talk which to begin with was pretty hard to imagine.
I actually contacted the lead sportswriter with a Minnesota paper who said he'd get back to me after speaking with the Wolves. While granted no one is <I>really</i> going to talk publically about that, he did respond: <I>"Clutch. Wolves say no chance. Regards..."</I>
I say we do everyting in our power to get Kevin Garnett. Let me ask you this though, do you include Eddie Griffen in a trade that involves KG?? I personally say no.
No chance.... of what? Being traded to the Rockets (I think) or of doing a contract extension? BTW, if he is getting $28 Million in the last year of this contract, $75 Million over 4 years reads like a paycut.
It is a paycut. Escalating contracts like his (and Shaq and Grant Hill among others) were the driving force behind the owners wanting a new cap structure (ie, the current CBA). In spite of Clutch's words, why do I get the feeling that "the #1 + KT + Rice for KG" threads will continue?
