Reg Pablo - Also the July 20th guarantee date on his specific contract was the reason why the fans got their new shiny toy in July rather than in October.

If that contract didn't have that date there is almost no way the trade is made when its made. Morey would want to wait to see what kind of suspension is handed out, and how his recovery goes, and the Nuggets would have a standing offer with the Rockets they could wait on to see if when Lawson's situation gets resolved if any better offers increase.

So as impatient, whiny fans who we'd have to listen complain for two+ months, be thankful the Rockets traded for Prigioni.

Carlisle's comment about his first coaching job was hysterical -- "I was done as a player, had been for many years." great stuff.

Yeah, and this guy never does

Your stars relationship with the coach matters. Changing the coaching dynamic comes with risk. Especially with a opinionated veteran coach with personal dynamics that impact his direction he wants to take.

Carlisle - the big of the future will be able to guard on the perimeter - Gentry smiles and says I have one of those.

fun segment, McHale didn't mention any of his current players as smart...

You are comparing Dwight to Boogie Cousins in terms of temperament? really?

Gentry and Carlisle were clearly the smartest coaches out of the bunch. Blatt seemed like a fish out of water and Mchale seemed just happy to be there, lol.

No... I'm discussing stable coaching relationships with star players having value in the NBA, and the risk that's associated with de-stabilizing that relationship. When Dwight went to the Magic to ask for a coaching change, it destabilized the relationship as there was about to be a coaching change. Had SVG had the trust of Dwight, and been on the same page as him.... well its past history so who knows.

Dwight Howard is a much different type of person, and player than DeMarcus Cousin, but there is something to be said with both guys, and likewise star players about the stability of their coaching relationships and the positive impact that comes from that.

Look at what happened in LA as a primary example with Dwight. Dwight came in there, and D'Antoni came in there with different priorities, and a lack of cohesion. Neither D'Antoni nor Dwight were necessarily wrong, but the instability of a new coach with different priorities from his star player hurt that team tremendously.

Stability, Trust, and being on the same page with Stars and Coaches has value in the NBA, and destabilizing the coaching position has its risks as well... as we saw many times over with multiple examples of star players, and sometimes GREAT coaches not being on the same page in a new basketball situation.

This is something the McHale hating Rockets "fans" will never grasp as to the complexities of the decision making to stick with McHale, and when making other personnel decisions.

We didn't have a big man that can guard the perimeter when we were playing GSW. DMo was injured and T Jones was struggling defensively...

I think the Green comment stems from his playing days and the confidence he has as a great player. We forget and underestimate this guy who was one of the best to play his position and maybe the most skilled PF of all time. Barkley often refers to him as the best player he played against. I bring up Charles because he is built similarly to Green and had to play against Mchale. I have no doubt that McHale would have destroyed him on offense and basketball is a game of who can take advantage. If Mchale is abusing Green in the post and on defense, since Green's forte is not as an offensive threat, Kerr would have had to sub him out or switch.

    Oh I got the point....
But what needs to be added is how does that big skilled guy guard the smaller skilled guy who can put it on the floor and shoot threes?

Carlisle is discussing his transition from player to coach. He says, "I was done as a player and had been done for many years, really."
As everyone else laughs, McHale simply says, "yeah."

    We started Howard/Smith against Green/Barnes.
    Dumb coaching.

Should have been Smith/Ariza and Howard on the bench.
Howard is a defensive liability against PF's that can shoot and doesn't dominate them on the offensive side of the ball.

All you're talking about is what guys were doing on the offensive side of the floor.

I was talking about defending Green.
You do know that defense is important?
