Martin cleared to play, says his return "should be real quick." BLOG UPDATE (1:49 p.m.): First of all, all you fans calling for Martin to play tonight can go ahead and settle down. That's just not happening, but he will be getting some work in today. He plans on getting in four practices leading up to Friday's game, but the ultimate decision on whether he returns against Philadelphia will now be made by coach Paul Westphal. Meanwhile, here's his tentative schedule leading up to that game. He'll work out this afternoon, doing sprinting, jumping, dunking, and going very hard like he did in a couple one-on-none extra sessions last week. Tomorrow he will practice with the team, then do extra work on his own afterward. The team isn't schedule to practice on Thursday, but Martin is planning on getting in one last workout with an assistant coach on Thursday night in Philly. From there, it'll just be a case of whether Westphal and Martin think he's back in a rhythm and ready to contribute. *** According to Kings shooting guard Kevin Martin, he was cleared to play today by the doctor who performed his Nov. 9 surgery. Martin, who has been out since having the operation done to repair a hairline fracture in his left wrist, said the next couple days of practice will determine if he can play as early as Friday's game at Philadelphia. "We'll see how these practices go the next couple of days," he said immediately after his appointment. "It's a good thing I have been doing basketball related workouts for three weeks so it should be real quick." http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/sports/kings/archives/2010/01/martin-to-retur.html
He'd better not take stats away from Tyreke and Omri Casspi. Those guys are killing it for my fantasy league.
This is the kind of jolt that will help the Kings weather the storm from now until the All-Star break. They are slipping big time right now and have lost 8/10 since nearly getting to .500.
Hopefully, this will teach Tyreke Evans how to coexist with another star at a very young age rather than getting the whole "I'm the man" mentality that can pollute the brains of otherwise talented and promising young stars.
Hopefully the Kings backcourt experiment of Evans and Martin will fail so they trade him to the Rockets.
Has anyone seen the Kings play lately? I haven't seen them play since Kevin Martin came back so I was wondering how the Evans-Martin backcourt experiment was going.
I don't know the exact average but Evans scoring hasn't been down. He's even had a 30 pt. game since Martin returned. I don't think they are winning though. They got blown out in their last game.
Haven't seen them much since K-Mart came back. From what I've read, the problem is the other players don't know what to do, not Tyreke Evans.
The Kings have lost 6 straight since Martin returned, they have a 1-10 record when he plays, and they still refuse to start a PG with Evans. Kings suck, lottery it is again for them.
I mean, I know he's a good player. However, his history of injuries and his build make me a non-fan. He needs the ball constantly... Peole want him on the Rockets, but with that salary and the number of shots he needs, I don't think he would be a good fit. Not to nitpick...but his shooting form still bothers me. It seems like it would be easier to guard. Chuck Hayes would slap the ball away every time Kevin uses that hitch.
aout time i thought he fell off the planet.. hes more injury-prone than tracy, i didnt kno that was possible.. hes a definite NO in regards to a trade i dont wana hear no rumors with his name in it, if so that person should slap themself
I justed checked their schedule. The Kings have gone 2-14 (both wins were at home against the Nuggets) after starting the season 13-14, so the slide started before K-Mart returned. I remember their inspiring road wins over the Bucks and Bulls that were followed up by very tough OT losses against the Cavs and Lakers. It's been downhill ever since. If K-Mart doesn't connect with Westphal and the team before the trade deadline, the Kings should unload him.
I just looked at the game logs. In the 6 games he's played since coming back he's 23 for 68 and 7 for 24 on threes, that's a 33.8 fg% and a 29.1 3pt%. Since scoring is his main contribution I would imagine this is really hurting their chances of winning games. Does he appear to still be injured? Are they not running plays for him anymore?
It does make you wonder but the Kings were 1-4 before he got hurt when he was scoring big. My guess is if the losing continues they will move him before the deadline even though they say otherwise. I just hope he doesn't go to the Mavericks.
Over the past three games he's made Trevor Ariza look like an All-Star...... Pull up his numbers. I dare you. Damn man, what the hell is going on here? I like Martin as a player but something clearly isn't right here.
Time to trade for Kevin Martian. Moreygetherdone! Make the deal while his value is low. Mac + the Rockets 1st round pick for Martian and expiring contract of KT. Moreygetherdone.
