As great as KG was, he was a complimentary star. He only got out of the first round 1 time in Minny. He just wasn't a dominant offensive player.

Dirk routinely led teams deep into the playoffs, with a revolving cast around him. He might have won a second ring if they hadn't run into a hot GS team playing a gimmick style of ball.

Peak to peak, there are only a handful of players who bests Kevin Garnett's '03-'05 stretch in NBA history. However, I think overall career, you have to hand it to Nowitzki.

I'll go with Kevin for the defense, but it's close.

KG all day. When they were in their primes, the conversation was KG or Duncan.

Dirk was still learning how to post 6'7" guys.

    Offense,
    Dirk > KG

    Defense

    Dirk <<<<<<<< KG

    Simple math. KG wins.

Im not implying that since nobody has said KG carried the Celtics on his back with little help like some are saying Dirk did.

I remember that championship year VERY well. Dirk did have help but only in certain series, against the Lakers it was Terry and Peja. But against the Thunder and in the Finals he put the team on his back something KG only dreams he could do.

Yeah if all you're focusing on offense I suppose he had little help.

Too bad there is this thing called defense which was huge for them winning a title that series.

Dallas doesn't win that championship without Tyson Chandler so yes defense was huge.

Huge understatent on the first one. Dirk was way better than kg offensively. Kg had some playmaking/passing skills but he could never take a game over like dirk. Dirk's scoring ability is at least equal to KG's defense. It's totally bogus when people weigh defense moreso than offense. The bitten line is that dirk had a greater ability to take over and dominate a game in a way that kg never could. That is my biggest factor when I compare 2 players. If someone can take complete control of a game or series with any particular skill, they are the more special player. Dirk did that more than KG.

Garnett was a fantastic two way player. Dirk isn't a great defender.

They dont make it past the Thunder without Dirk either. Cant do one without the other so people trying to 1 up Garnett because of his defense while downplaying Dirks offense dont really have an argument.

I think it's funny this forum picks Dirk over KG while swearing that PG is better Harden, especially when you consider that offensive impacts between KG and Dirk were closer and the defensive impact was significantly greater.
